Early projections in Las Vegas have Alabama listed as a 9.5-point favorite against Auburn, according to gaming experts David Purdum of ESPN and R.J. Bell of Pregame.com. No. 1 Alabama (9-1, 6-1 SEC) hosts No. 14 Auburn (7-3, 4-3) on Nov. 29 (6:45 p.m., ESPN).

"One thing last weekend did do was affect the Iron Bowl," Purdum told The State newspaper. "Alabama is all the way up to a 9.5-point favorite after seeing Auburn get dismantled at Georgia."...

Here's what Sheridan said last May (2014):

"If they [Aubs vs Alabama] were playing in Tuscaloosa this weekend, I wouldn't make Alabama the favorite," Sheridan explained. "It would be pretty close to a pick 'em. I would love to take Auburn and the points. Again, without Coker.

"With Coker, Alabama would be a slight favorite."

Sheridan described the Tide as "putting all their eggs in one basket with Coker." In fact, he said if Coker doesn't pan out and isn't the quarterback for Alabama, "they are going to lose quite a few games."

"If he's an average quarterback and it doesn't work out, I can easily see them lose on the road to Mississippi. They can certainly lose to LSU. There are probably a few more in the middle."

   Actually he was right, based on what we knew then.  Had we gone with Coker, and 'if Coker didn't pan out' (as he said), we'd have been in trouble.
