For the first time in program history, Alabama men's basketball has an Academic All-American. Senior guard Levi Randolph has been selected to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, it was announced on Thursday.

"We are extremely proud of and excited for Levi to be recognized as an Academic All-American and Alabama's first honoree in the sport of men's basketball," head coach Anthony Grant said. "He has worked extremely hard from day one to achieve this goal and it's great to see him realize it. Levi epitomizes what the term student-athlete is all about."

For Randolph, who is the only player from the Southeastern Conference to earn the honor in the sport of men's basketball, it was a goal he has been working toward since the moment he walked on campus.

"I can't put into words how honored I am to earn the program's first Academic All-American award," Randolph said. "I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for their support during my career and helping push me - not just as a basketball player but as a student-athlete. It feels good to see the hard work I've put in both on and off the court has paid off and helped me achieve this goal. My father always told me that a person can stand on a book a lot longer than they can stand on a basketball ball and that's just always something I've lived by."

Congratulations to Levi. This young man has been a good player for us. A four year starter who gives 100% every time he takes the court. He has not played on championship teams but Levi is a champion in my opinion. He represents the University of Alabama in a first class manner. Levi has a bright future in whatever he decides to do after college.

That is terrific for Levi! What a class act on and off the court. He will be a success in whatever he chooses to do in life. I wish him the very best.

A native of Madison, Ala., Randolph earned his undergraduate degree in marketing this past August, completing the requirements for graduation in just three years, earning 3.45 grade point average. He has been named to the Dean's List in five out of seven semesters (3.5 GPA or better). This past fall, the senior guard began taking graduate-level classes for a master's in marketing, finishing his first semester of grad school with a 3.75 GPA. He is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was unanimously voted by his teammates as the team's captain this season.

His work ethic shows on the court.
