A player from the 1975 Alabama football team recently showed Saban a letter received from Bear Bryant inviting the player to participate in the preseason camp.
"What I'm about to ask you to do, ordinary people couldn't do," Saban said the letter read. "You wouldn't be successful if you were ordinary and do what we're going to do and try to win a championship. He said, but 'we have extraordinary people.' And that's kinda how our players reacted."
The "ordinary people" quote wasn't uncommonly attributed to Bryant.
"I don't want ordinary people," Bryant said at Texas A&M with his famous Junction Boys, according to ESPN's SportsCentury biography. "I want people who are willing to sacrifice and do without a lot of those things ordinary students get to do. That's what it takes to win." ...
