Good article. Spot on!

Quote
It was a disappointing performance from an offensive line that looked good against Georgia the previous weekend in a 38-10 win. The offensive line wasn't able to impose its will on an Arkansas defensive line that had success stunting and moving around. Left tackle Cam Robinson wasn't himself against the Razorbacks, leading some to believe he's injured. Alabama head coach Nick Saban said Monday that Robinson wasn't able to practice as much as usual.

It wasn't easy sledding with run-blocking, either. Derrick Henry had to work hard for every one of the 95 yards he gained against the Razorbacks. The Alabama running back is great when he can get to the second level, but it wasn't easy when Arkansas players were able to hit him in the backfield or right at the line of scrimmage. Kelly said there were communication problems and that everyone wasn't on the same page which led to blocking issues.

Isn't the missing ingredient commonly known as coaching?

In some cases but most of the time it's all able the execution of what the coaches have taught the players. It's like leading a horse to the watering trough, you can give him the water but it's up to the horse to drink it. Wink

Which means the coaches are never at fault for failing, it's the players fault. Anthony Grant was a great coach, but the players wouldn't follow his instructions. Same goes for Shula, Chizik, David Hobbs, & most other coaches.

If a coach starts off letting the players know that there are/will be consequences for not doing what they are supposed to then that might not be as big a problem as it has in some incidences...  Regardless...

Salient points, as concern the thread title:

1. Arkansas' D-line played well against us, had a good scheme, and prepared well in the film room (misnomer).  They knew our play book, and had few breakdowns.  Their athletes are excellent.

2. Cam Robinson was probably 75%.  His knee injury seems to be bothering him.  He had no push, seemed to have slow feet, both unlike him.  It was discussed by both Eli Gold and the TV announcers during the game.  He needs rest, but we need him.  His lack of push hurt our running game.

3. Pierschbacher had an average game at guard.  His missed block led to the first interception.  He almost whiffed at the guy.  Cam's weaknesses next to him probably contributed to Pierschbacher's missed assignments.

4. We didn't roll the QB much at all against Arky.  Apparently our coaches thought we didn't need to, but they probably misjudged the talent along the Arky D-line.  As a result, Coker sat in the pocket too long at times and got sacked.

5. Our O-line blocking schemes are complex.  Any time you have such complex schemes you've got to expect breakdowns and occasional penalties.  Coaching?  Les Miles went from complex to simple for his offense.  It means he has a team ready to perform from game one, but defenses catch up with it later in the season.  Our coaches may have put together too complex a scheme for Arky.  Is that bad coaching if the entire offensive line couldn't perform 100% of the time?  Perhaps.  But that's out team: NFL-like, complex, and big-boy football.

Live with it!

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. I hope Cam is ready Saturday. You're right and I hadn't thought about it, but that most likely did have an impact on Pierschbacher's performance.
Definitely E-cred worthy!

Kelly missed blocks or the DL got off quickly which could be a snap count issue.  Also, Taylor missed blocks and took bad steps.  Howard even though he has improved still misses or doesn't finish blocks.  The other TE is in the same boat.  It was the freshman Hentges this week.
