According to figures provided by ESPN, Alabama's 45-40 win Monday over Clemson drew a 16.0 overnight rating. That's the third-highest rating garnered by ESPN across all sports. It beat the BCS National Championship Game finals for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons but didn’t beat the first College Football Playoff final last year, which drew an 18.5 for Ohio State’s win over Oregon. Auburn’s win over Oregon in the BCS final capping the 2010 season drew a 16.1.

I have ESPN but don't think the championship game should be restricted to pay TV, cutting out those who can't afford it. The Super Bowl isn't.
