Alabama softball is ranked fourth in the 2016 preseason SEC coaches’ poll, as announced by the league office Thursday.

Defending national champion Florida claimed the top spot with 10 out of 13 first-place votes, while LSU slotted second with three first-place votes and SEC Tournament winner Auburn placed third. Alabama has won five SEC regular season titles, including three of the last five, most recently in 2014. The Crimson Tide has finished in the top three in the SEC in 10 of the last 11 seasons, winning at least 20 conference games in seven of those seasons.

I was expecting 4th in the nation, not 4th in the SEC.  Undecided

4th in the SEC is 4th in the nation.

The softball team also has a couple of free events for fans coming up.  I'm going to try and go down for the appreciation day game on Feb. 6th.

Quote
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Leading into the 2016 season, Alabama Softball will be hosting a pair of events to give fans an opportunity to meet the team and preview what should be an exciting 2016 season.

The team’s second annual Trivia & Games Night will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Tuscaloosa River Market. Limited spots are still available for the event at a price of $35 per person. A catered meal will be served and a silent auction for various items will be held. A trivia contest will give tables an opportunity to win prizes while various games and exclusive team reveals will happen in between rounds of trivia. Fans can contact Suzanne Sentell (ssentell@sentell.net) or Gina Dykeman (gina.rtr@att.net) for ticket information.

The following weekend, Alabama Softball will host a Fan Appreciation Day at Rhoads Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 6. Admission to the event is free and the gates will open at 11 a.m. for an open practice. Food, while supplies last, will be served at Noon courtesy of the Bama Softball Walk-Off Club. Tours of the clubhouse will take place every 30 minutes and the team will sign autographs on the concourse following practice.

Brickyard season tickets are also still available for the 2016 season at a cost of $45 and can be ordered online at rolltide.com/tickets or by calling the ticket office at (205) 348-BAMA.

For the latest information on Alabama Softball, follow the team on Twitter (@AlabamaSB) and Instagram (BamaSB) or like us on Facebook at Alabama Softball.

I think the predictions are fair as Bama has a few question marks with the pitching staff this year. With the unexpected loss of the freshman pitcher from Arkansas, it has created a possible problem for CPM. Sydney Littlejohn and Alexis Osorio are both back but each of them are coming off of injury recovery and Madi Moore, the third pitcher, showed in the fall practice that she wasn't quite ready for SEC competition. I want to feel that Littlejohn and Osorio are well and back to form but I'm not so sure our third pitcher Moore is where she needs to be. With Fan Day just days days away, we should get some answers concerning the pitching.

The plus side of the team should be the offense this year. Bama showed a big improvement in the fall with their bats. This could help offset some of the pitching woes, if there are any, as I expect Bama to be much improved with run production.

Defensively they should be okay, we lost a very good shortstop to graduation and I'm not sure who will fill that gap, but other than shortstop I think the team is solid. We do have a very good catcher this year in Freshman Reagan Dykes. She is the best catcher that Bama has had in a very long time. She's not only a good catcher but she could possibly lead the team in hitting this year, she is the real deal. All of the incoming freshmen really impressed me in the fall practice.

I'm looking forward to seeing the players and how much they have improved since fall practice, especially pitcher Madi Moore and I hope some of you might want to come out watch the ladies on Fan Day. It's all free, admission and food, so all we need now is some good weather and the fans to show up.

Jamos, I hadn't heard about losing the Arkansas pitcher.  What happened there?

She came in with an injured arm and would have probably been red shirted. She got homesick, some say the boyfriend, and decided to go back home.

I wish she had made her decision not to come before she enrolled as I think she had mixed feelings before she enrolled, that would have given CPM a chance to shop for another pitcher which they need in a bad way. It is what it is and hopefully Littlejohn and Osorio can stay healthy all year. Plus, maybe Madi Moore can be a big surprise for us since the fall season.

Talking with Mrs. Nalt today I told her about the softball fan appreciation day on Feb. 6th.  She reminded me that we already have plans and tickets to the rodeo that is coming to Huntsville that weekend so I won't get to meet the ladies...  Cry Cry Cry
