Outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw has been battling against Kouandjio in practice.

"That's a beast out there," Upshaw said. "Going against him in practice, he's got good feet. I saw him out there today just manhandle a guy. He's a true freshman. For him to come in and do things like that, it's unbelievable

Alabama coach Nick Saban tried to get starting center William Vlachos into the game but Jones already was on the field as the center.

"I said, 'If he fumbles this snap, if we don't get the snap here, it's your fault, because you're supposed to run out there and say, 'I'm playing center. The coach is not supposed to change the center on the 1-yard line," Saban said.

He had a good game for his first one but he'll be tested this week by Penn State.
