Mark Emmert has not even reached his first anniversary in his job as president of the NCAA, but his tenure already resembles the voyage of the Titanic. In fairness, Emmert inherited a pigsty which has grown increasingly worse on his watch. He has attempted Glasnost -- a change from former leaders. Still, for Emmert's sake, it's a good thing he's only president of the NCAA. If he were in charge of a Fortune 500 company, the company's stock would be plummeting and Emmert would be on his way to the unemployment line.

Like most self-righteous academicians, Emmert has an answer for every problem. He learned this from his old boss and mentor at Colorado, E. Gordon Gee (now the chief obfuscator at Ohio State). You may remember Gee's comical proclamation in March: "I hope he (Coach Jim Tressel) doesn't fire me.''

When the ivory tower boys are in trouble, they either call for a fancy retreat or foam at the mouth. There has been a lot of both lately.

Thanks for posting. I like PF. I did not realize his SI column started today. Do you know how often his column will run? I would assume once a week or maybe twice.

I almost forgot: Emmert is a jerk and he doesn't respond to Smitty's emails.

I don't think PF likes Emmert.

I hope it is once a week. He has posted articles there before. I think this is his first column though. I don't know the details.

I wonder how easy Bama would have gotten off if Emmert was there during the Albert Means case.

Look at OSU, fire coach and everything is fine, Miami suspend some players for half the year, Auburn..........uhhh yeah.

I mean really has he done anything? I wish I had a job like that and got paid like he does.

I've got some news for Emmert, PF's pencil is much sharper than the minds of the NCAA and they don't want to get in a war of words with him.

PF said on his show Friday that the NCAA did not appreciate his article and made some noise about it. Nothing they can do. PF can be caustic, I wonder if SI knew how much.

A fews years after he started writing for Post Herald, Bama beat the boogs when Roy Turner stopped Fullwood on 4th down and goal in 1984. Kept boogs out of Sugar bowl. Dye didn't give the ball to Bo. PF article came out that Monday - with his article - 4th and Dumb. Dye and boogs got upset and cried, whine and moan like they always have.
