Hogs will come to Bryant-Denny with more confidence than last time

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino called his team's 35-7 loss at Alabama in 2009 a prime teaching tool and a big yardstick in the realm of mental preparation.

The No. 14 Razorbacks return to Bryant-Denny Stadium, now expanded to more than 101,000 in capacity, with what Petrino hopes is the proper emotional state to compete with No. 3 Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

Petrino said he didn't think his team felt deep down it could win the game in 2009.

"What happens then is you see a lot of people do the same thing against Alabama," he said. "You don't execute and do the same thing that you normally do.

"You drop passes. You overthrow a guy wide open. You trip on a line. ... You're out of your comfort zone and you don't play football the way you can. I think last year's game has to help us some in our confidence and certainly the way we came out in that game."

Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee, when asked his assessment of the no-huddle offense that helped the Hogs build a 24-0 lead over Troy, demurred on the subject -- at least for a moment.

"I didn't know that we were in no-huddle," McGee said straight-faced. "We were just trying to go at a fast tempo. I didn't want everybody in the world to know we were in a no-huddle."

When reporters pointed out the availability of game tape and that the game was televised, McGee continued.

"We feel we've got a lot of fast kids on our team, and we really trust and believe in our conditioning," he said. "It tended to work for us the other night."
