Bama starts their season with a 96-57 win over McGill in Canada tonight. I know McGill isn't Kentucky but it's a good win to start their season. It was a typical first game game as lots of sloppy play but that is to be expected in the first part of the season with the pace they will play this season.
The game started with the Tide falling behind 11-3 and then the Tide went on a 36-2 run. The Tide led 51-28 at halftime thanks to a combined 32 points from Sexton (11), Petty (11) and Daniel Giddens (10) off the bench. More of that sharp shooting from Petty continued, though, in the second half, as he scored 11 of Alabama's 17 points in the third quarter to lead the Crimson Tide team with 22 points. The freshman was 8-of-10 from the floor in only 16 minutes of action.
For the game Bama shot 59.6 percent (34-57) from the field, 56 percent (14-25) from three and 60.9 percent (14-23) from the free-throw line. The Tide out-rebounded the Redmen 34-25 but turned the ball over 28 times.
Alabama will next play Carleton University in the Canadian capital on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m CT. Hosting six NCAA teams prior to last season, Carleton finished with a perfect record of 6-0, including a victory over the Wichita State Shockers.
