RUSHING OFFENSE

B -- There were a handful of issues -- most notably a three-play goal-line stand by Arkansas, in which Alabama couldn't punch it in from a half-yard out. The Crimson Tide offensive front started to get a good push in the second half, but by then, the Arkansas defense was behind -- through no real fault of its own -- by three TDs. Still, it wasn't a bad day by any stretch.

RUSHING DEFENSE

A -- At halftime, the Razorbacks' leading rusher had one yard. One. This was unquestionably a dominating performance by the Alabama defensive front. Arkansas had two decent running plays the entire game. One was called back for a holding penalty. The other went for nine yards on the first play of the second half.

PASSING OFFENSE

C -- I know it's odd to blow out a top-15 SEC opponent and get a C in passing, especially when there were no real serious problems, but I don't know how you say the Tide's passing game on Saturday was anything more than average. There were very few deep, or even intermediary passes, and QB AJ McCarron held the ball way too long on several plays.

PASSING DEFENSE

A -- It wasn't always perfect, but it was as good as you could hope for against a group of receiv ers as talented as the Razorbacks. The Alabama DBs gave up very few big plays and forced Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson to settle for short throws on most plays. There was also a pick and an interception returned for a score.

SPECIAL TEAMS

A -- Basically two TDs and 17 points came from the special teams units. Marquis Maze had a very Javier Arenas-like punt return for a score and a fake field goal try resulted in another TD. Jeremy Shelley booted through his only FG attempt. The Tide covered punts and kicks pretty well.

COACHING

A -- Everyone knows where the hole is on this team -- passing game. Yet, the coaches were able to mask that about as well as you can, using a trick play, solid defense, a hurry-up scheme that flat wore out the Hogs and a simple offense that took the pressure off a young QB. Buttoning up the Arkansas receivers is no small feat. Alabama's defense made it seem like one, and appeared to be in the Razorbacks' playbook on several occasions.

I think 15 of 20 for 200 yards with no interceptions and being just good enough to keep the Arkansas defense from loading the box is worthy of at least a B.  The only mistake by AJ or a receiver that I remember is Kenny Bell not going past the first down marker on a 3rd and long completion.

I agree with you, Phil, but I'm surprised he had anything good to say about Bama. He's a barner to his core.

Yea as you guys say, surprisingly good review from this Barner guy.  I think his point on the passing game is fair, i.e. we don't yet have a downfield passing game that is a real threat.  Too many overthrows, etc.  Passing stats look good but much of that is YAC yardage off short throws. That's great but it doesn't replace a long pass threat.

AJ is only inches away on some of those long passes that are overthrown.  He will start to hit some of those real soon.
