GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Will Muschamp is a lucky man.

Not many head coaches get a shot at a signature victory in the fifth start of their first season.

Not many proteges get a chance to take down their mentors when their mentors are on top of the world.

Muschamp can slay both of those dragons with one stone Saturday night.

All the new Florida coach has to do is get the better of the best college football coach in the country, who may just have his best team.

All he has to do is beat Nick Saban and Alabama.

Good luck with that.

When last we left the Alabama-Florida rivalry, it wasn't a rivalry. It was a cry for mercy. Saban was busy turning Urban Meyer, one of the best college football coaches of the last decade, into a television commentator.

It's a measure of Saban's cold-blooded process that Alabama didn't just catch and pass Florida in their last two meetings. The Crimson Tide ran the Gators off the highway and left them for road kill.

In 2008, Florida was on top of the world, headed toward its second national title in three years, but you could see Meyer's grip on the SEC's throat start to slip. His team had to come from behind in the fourth quarter of the SEC Championship Game to hold back Alabama.

Same time, same stage, next year, Alabama led 19-13 at the half in the Georgia Dome. It was at that point that Saban stepped on Meyer's neck on his way back to the top. For the next six quarters, the last two in the 2009 SEC Championship Game (13-0) and all four during their 2010 regular-season meeting in Tuscaloosa (31-6), Alabama put down Florida 44-6...

Hasn't Scarbinski been writing a lot of pro-Bama articles lately?

Good article, but I am concerned that we may have copied to much of it over to here.  I have no idea what is acceptable under the law, but maybe we should strive for copying no more than say... 25% as a rule of thumb.  I would love to hear from someone with some legal expertise in this area if there is any one out there.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links Chechem.  This is an area that I definitely need to understand better.

“How much of someone else's work can I use without getting permission?”
Under the fair use doctrine of the U.S. copyright statute, it is permissible to use limited portions of a work including quotes, for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, and scholarly reports. There are no legal rules permitting the use of a specific number of words, a certain number of musical notes, or percentage of a work. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on all the circumstances.

I guess I need to study the fair use doctrine when I get a chance.

A determining factor in deciding whether or not to take legal action for copyright infringement would be the amount of damages incurred.  Unless another website had a "hate-on" for CRS, they would consider this a waste of resources and decide to refrain. Maybe a warning letter. HTH

You are correct of course, but I want to do the right thing even if there is no threat of legal action.

It is easier to get forgiven than to get permission.  Wink
