Still three weeks from a bye week, Tide takes it easy for a day

Only a light walk-through was scheduled today for a team that will reach the mid-point of its regular season Saturday when it plays host to Vanderbilt.

Coming off a rousing 38-10 victory at Florida, the Crimson Tide (5-0) has played five consecutive weeks, and its bye week still is three weeks away.

"This sort of change of schedule for today was something that was planned," Alabama coach Nick Saban said today at his news conference.

"When we play eight games in a row, we don't like to play more than six without changing the routine, giving the players basically two days where they don't do much."

Most of the players' time today was scheduled to be spent in meetings, studying film.

Last year at this time (I think) we were completing a three game run of Arky, UF, and USCe. Not only is this schedule more favorable, but the split between off. plays and def. plays has been much more equitable. At the end of the Florida game I got the impression the team wanted to keep on playing.
