The Alabama Supreme Court did Thursday what no team in North Alabama could this year. They stopped Clay-Chalkville's promising football season.
The Supreme Court rendered a verdict that supported the Alabama High School Athletic Association's interpretation of its rules. Clay-Chalkville is out of the Class 6A playoffs which begin Friday. The Cougars went unbeaten on the field, but now see their official record for the 2011 season fall to 1-9.
The decision sets aside three separate injunctions from the circuit courts of Etowah, Jefferson and Morgan Counties. Check back to Al.com for more information and reaction on this developing story.
The AHSAA Class 6A playoff bracket returns to its position after Clay-Chalkville's appeal was denied by the AHSAA's Central Board of Control. Mountain Brook will host Gadsden City. Hoover hosts Hewitt-Trussville. Vestavia Hills goes on the road to face Austin. Spain Park travels to face Oxford.
