Quote
NEEDHAM — Frank Spaziani said that his star junior linebacker Luke Kuechly was the closest player to Dick Butkus that he’s ever seen in all his years in the sport of football.

Now Kuechly has the hardware to back up his head coach’s claim.

In a surprise visit to Boston College’s end-of-year banquet, the legendary Chicago Bears linebacker awarded the 2011 Butkus Award to Kuechly, naming him the best linebacker in the nation.

He definitely deserves it after anchoring a ferocious defense which finished 73rd in the NCAA in total defense, just behind La.-Lafayette but ahead of the mighty Auburn defense.
The rock solid BC defense gave up a meager 23.5 points a game and their Butkus Award winning LB led a tough run-stopping D that finished 60th in the nation. No doubt the outstanding leadership and D he represented helped him win the award.

Sometimes it's about playing D in the midst of the voters.

Or, if you speak real estate-ology, it's location, location, location.   Angry

How many times did BC play to a NATIONAL audience? I think they played once, against Notre Dame. I think the Northern and Midwestern writers (voters) are tired of hearing about all the great Southern football players & teams.

Travesty! I'm not taking anything away from the kid from BC, but travesty.
