TUSCALOOSA — Captivated by the screens above the bar, a nervous silence settled over the near-campus establishment on an otherwise sleepy Sunday evening.
Turn down the music, crank up the TV, and start praying.
Just after 7:15, the peace was broken and the hopes wishes were granted.
The party began when the Alabama football team was officially announced as one of two participants in the Jan. 9 BCS National Championship Game.
Singing along with the Crimson Tide fight song, the mostly student crowd reveled in the prospect of a rematch with No. 1 LSU with everything at stake in New Orleans.
Over in Birmingham, a similar scene played out at the Alabama football team banquet. Coach Nick Saban said he didn’t know the final verdict until it was announced live on ESPN with the whole room watching.
