We have reservations at Causeway La Quinta in Metairie for $154 a night.  It's 5 mi away but it's what was available with a good policy for cancellations.  My sister has found a hotel room at the St. Charles St Quality Inn which is 1.8 mi from the Superdome plus the streetcar runs out front.  It is $250 a night but the hotel looks nicer.  A review online said it wasn't the best neighborhood...not like Metairie is 90210 but safety is more of a concern than swankiness.  Anyone familiar with these 2 areas?  We booked both but can cancel still...just need to know which is better.

You should be ok at the St. Charles St. location. There's a lot more to do in that area than in Metairie, if you don't mind the price difference.

Well my sisters went to pasadena in 2009 and they said it was utter craziness and they want to be able to walk to the hotel or catch a shuttle.  I don't care either way but I admit I do feel better knowing that my sister's BAMAfied mercedes will be in a parking deck with a valet/security cams vs. an open lot.  My crappy ride I would PRAY THEY STOLE!  hahaha    Will be kid of nice to catch the trolley thing and get a refresher of the sights, I guess.

My son is with a bunch of buddies from UA, they can not afford a fancy motel. In fact, I told my son I would pay for the room in Hattiesburg to help him out (not to mention the hundreds of dollars mom & dad spend on him).

There are NO GOOD NEIGHBORHOODS in New Orleans, just safer areas.   I usally stay at the Hilton or Royal Sonesta, you will be ok on St Charles.  Metairie is boring.

Thanks MD. That'll give me something to laugh about while I'm waiting for the game to start. Best post yet. Applause E-Cred

We recently drove through for THanksgving and we stopped at Heritage Inn in Picayune which is right near Louisiana/MS border.  $49a night and it had just been renovated.  The continental breakie was a joke but there was a hardee's next door.  Very clean and for just spending a night en route it was an awesome deal...must call the front desk for that price, not hotels.com

I've stayed at the Quality Inn on OKeefe before, but not the St. Charles one.  The OKeefe location was fine.  The neighborhood where the St. Charles is located isn't the best, but you should be reasonably secure there.  Just a few miles down the road the neighborhoods get much nicer, as you're into the garden district.  And there is lots to do nearby.  If it were me, I'd go for the St Charles location.
