Men's Basketball Set to Face Kansas State -Tonight 9:00 ESPNU

This will be a tough game. A win tonight will look very good on the NCAA Tournament resume.

The University of Alabama men's basketball team travels to Kansas City, Mo., to face Kansas State in a neutral site contest at the Sprint Center Saturday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. CST on ESPNU and via the radio affiliates of the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
 
The No. 23/21  Crimson Tide enter the game coming off a win over Detroit at home to improve to 8-2 on the season while Kansas State has enjoyed similar early season success with a 6-1 record on the season and the lone loss coming to West Virginia by an 85-80 margin in overtime.

This is a real challenge. K-State is averaging 76 points agame, has a freshman 6'7" forward who is a phenom and a 7' center who is a shot blocker. They haven't faced a defense like ours though. Very good, solid opponent for the Tide on a "neutral" court (K.C. Missouri) two or three hours from KSU.

It is about like us playing in B'ham. It is a road game. K State is a quality team and a win will look very good at the year.

According to realtimerpi.com our RPI is 15 with a SOS of 13. K State RPI is 61 with a SOS of 110. They are predicting we will win 67-64. I hope they are right.

You think an RPI of 15 will satisfy the NCAA or will they want us to have one of 10 or higher?

JaMichael Green is the key, he has got to stay out of foul trouble and get at least 30 minutes of playing time.

The good news is K-State can't hit the 3, either. Nick Jacobs is looking really good. That's good news for the future, especially with Green graduating this year.

I'm  not so sure I'd keep pulling JG every time he gets in foul trouble. He never comes in and saves the day at the end. Not one to second guess CAG, --he sees the team every day. But I'd never take him out on a hot run like they did against G'town or Dayton the other day. He only has 2 so far tonight.

Alabama has looked up and down all night. The D has been poor in the lane and under the basket, where they have been eating our lunch. Releford has not looked good at all. We have had 17 turnovers and still have 8 minutes in the game.

Ka St has put the smash down on ALABAMA since the 10 minute left in game mark. Alabama went cold on hitting and paying for it now!

I don't understand why Grant doesn't sit Releford. He drives to the basket with 2 or 3 guys on him and then misses the shot and K State gets the ball and goes down the court and scores. Jacobs has disappeared, Randolph has been a nonfactor, just a bad night for the team, so far.

CAG knows this team has to play the best to learn how to compete against the best and learn how to beat the beat.. Yeah, Alabama BB has took it on the chin in 3 out of the last 4 games. I am still proud in the effort given which will pay dividends later in the SEC schedule.

Wow, K-State really exposed some weaknesses tonight. Our lack of team size really bit us, along with our usual inability to hit from the outside, not just the 3, but any outside shooting. This game really reminds me of how we are still rebuilding in year 3 of Coach Grant's tenure. We still need shooters and some big men for the inside game. Grant needs to recruit at least 2 big men in the 6'9" to 7' range who can bump and grind and play tough inside, not to mention some pure shooters. We still need at least 2 more good recruiting classes, maybe 3. It just amazes me at how empty the cupboard was and how Gottfried just left the Tide high and dry. Just incredible.
