CNS probably has a choice, but wants to wait until after the bowl game.  Guessing...

CNS said he wanted to wait until after the bowl game to hire an OC. He said he wanted to see who was interested and take his time and make a good hire who fits his system. My guess is it will not be a well known hire but it will be a good hire.

The job pays $.5 million a year or more. I belief like "CAT" that CNS has a list in his pocket ready to start calling.  I just don't know who is on that list. Some great ones I am sure!

I bet we end up paying more for the next OC. Rumors say he might be from NFL.

IMHO, this will be an interesting hire that will tell us how/if CNS offensive philosophy is evolving.  I think the performance of our QB and the offense's ability to move and possess the ball in the NC game -- win or loose -- will have some effect on his thinking.

But I am as interested to see if he makes a change in the special teams coach.  Need a shake-up there.

Funny thing is, half the Bama nation is not sorry to see Coach M go.  I think Coach M made some great calls but also had some head scratchers.  Hopefully Saban can upgrade the program with the next hire.

I was thinking about this and wondered.  Through the years coaches gather up much info and put together playbooks.  I wonder if over the years CNS has decided what he wants to do offensively and has his own playbook?  Do you think the new guy brings his own playbook with him?  Does the new guy have to present his playbook and sell it to the coach or does CNS say his is your playbook, what do you think?

I think CNS has several names of OC's he is interested in. He puts out feelers to guage what if any interest they have in working for him at Alabama. CNS is so organized he knows what type of offense the OC candidate runs prior to the interview. During the interview CNS lays out what he is looking for in an OC and then lets the OC candidate tells him how they can run an offense that fits CNS system. A lot of time would be spent discussing what plays you call in certain situations. I'm sure even a defensive guru like CNS has developed an offensive play book. However, he would be crazy not to look at the OC's play book and see how they can come up with a play book that contains the best from both books. I expect CNS makes it clear that things will be done his way. The OC candidate also needs to have a personality that does not need his ego feed. The OC will not be allowed to meet with the media except on rare occassions.

This is a big hire. CNS made a bad hire when he came to Alabama and hired Major Applewhite. McElwain has done a great job. He is 47-6 as the Bama OC. He also developed JP Wilson and GMAC into NFL QB's. McCarron has exceeded all of our expectations.

I think CNS will take his time after the BCSCG is won and make a good hire that fits his style of play.

Thanks for the analysis.  When he hired McElwain, Saban said he was impressed that McElwain had developed an idea of what he liked to do on offense, and that McElwain's offense fit well with what Saban wanted Bama's offense to be like.  You have to credit McElwain with the pistol formation -- I don't think that came from Saban -- and the development of the offense that Bama currently uses.  Being a defensive guy, it does seem that Saban does give his OC some lattitude.
