Although Dont'a Hightower was not at today's press conference, he is still expected to enter the NFL draft per UA sources.

This always irritates me. I remember the days when nobody jumped ship early. They actually wanted to help Bama their last year and even graduated.

All 3 will be missed, but will have an outstanding legacy that people will talk about for years.

I'm on crimson tide text alerts and Dont'a was not listed as leaving- just trent and dre.

Old Tider- it used to bother me but trent has kids...providing for them is the responsible thing.  Remember our players don't get paid...this ain't auburn  Cheesy

I got the same message.  I'm not sure exactly who writes those or if they're official university releases.

It's just business.  There is too much money out there now, and too big of a risk of injury to return to college.   The University profits substantially from these kids playing, so they ARE helping Bama while they are playing.  The return they receive from the university is not anywhere near the value they bring.

Also, when these kids leave early for the NFL, it lights the eyes up of all those 5-star recruits out there hoping for the same opportunity.  So it's not all bad.

Times have changed. In the days you are remembering freshmen did not play much if at all. Today's stud freshmen come in ready to play. In Trent Richardson's case if he played another year that would be four years of SEC defenses hitting him on every play. The shelf life in the NFL is short. If these guys are 1st round picks they would be crazy not to go. I don't know if these guys have graduated or not. However, most players are graduating in three years since they enroll early and stay on campus every summer. I hate to see them leave but I certainly understand why they do it.
