No kidding. The talent on this team should be off the charts. For whatever reason, they're just getting by. A win is a win is a win, I would just like to see more confidence, especially with the outside shooting.

guys, we can't keep playing like this. We have to still play several teams at THEIR place, so things are not looking up. Also, Auburn is no easy win, in fact the only team we have left who might be called easy is LSU. We have to rebound better, period.

Ugly is only a 4 letter word which is small, but it was a big description of the way Bama played the first half. I know I'm beating on a dead horse but I still don't understand why Bama doesn't know how to beat the zone defense yet. I was so disgusted with the offense in the first half I almost left the game. I know CAG knows something about playing defense and it being up tempo but I don't think there's a coach on the team that knows how to draw up plays to beat a zone or can coach these players how to make the perimeter shots.

How Bama won that game is a wonder but they did and it was a big win but goodness they have got to get better offensively or it's going to be another disappointing season for them. I thought in the second half Bama was a different team hustle wise and it made a difference in getting some rebounds and loose balls.

The third thing that bothered me was the officiating of the game. I don't know how it looked on tv but at the game it wasn't a pretty sight, very inconsistant.

It was a win though and it wore me out trying to help them, I can only imagine how tired the players were after the game. Roll Tide!!

Good assessment, J.  I'd like to add that 1) playing against a zone defense is difficult for a team that substitutes mucho (plays a lot of different players).  Even so, our team seems to be the only one that sees a zone so much and still struggles against it.  There seems to be almost no confidence in perimeter shooting.  I don't know how we ever win without a threat of 3-point shots.

2)  When we played zone defense it seemed the players didn't rebound well at all.  That's a characteristic of playing zone.  Ole Miss gave us a demonstration of how it's done at their end ("Watch the tape, coach.")

3)  The SEC officials were among the worst during the 1970s-80s.  The ACC officials were the best.  Until the past few years I thought the SEC had caught up.  NOT.  Consistency depends on having at least 2 of the officials calling the game evenly (one is at either end of the court).  We had an unmatched set last night.  It's a problem.

I'm giving you an e-cred for surviving the game and returning home to describe it for us.  Thanks.  Applause E-Cred Applause E-Cred

A win is a win and we will take it. It was not pretty. We have to play better or we will finish below .500 in SEC play and that is unacceptable with the talant on this team.

IMO we are too easy to defend with the zone. Most zones gets spread out to defend the outside shot. Since we can not shoot the zone gets packed into the lane. That makes it very difficult to penetrate and easy for the defense to box out and rebound. Until we start hitting a few outside shots we will be looking a zones nearly 100% of the time.

The barn game at their place Tuesday night is going to be tough. It is a game we need to win. They play zone on everybody so we will see it for sure. They are playing much better than they did early in the season.

All of you have made some excellent points. Unless we can start hitting shots from the outside & rebound, we are toast. It kills me to say this, but I really don't see us making the NCAA Tourney. We are going to have huge problems on the road in the SEC. Can we win against Auburn, Arkansas, & Ole Miss at their place? I don't see it. This means we have to beat Florida and Miss. State at our place. It's a bleak picture right now unless we start hitting shots from the outside. Our game at Auburn could will answer a lot of our concerns.

Even if Bama makes the tournament, it is a one and done team given the way it is playing right now.  Offensive production has been terrible.  I thought Lacey was going to provide some perimeter shooting, but now he apparently is hurt, hopefuly the injury is minor.

Anyway, I'm already starting to look towards next year, when the young players will have a season under their belt, and perhaps Releford will start to become the dominant player he has the potential to become.  Making the tournament would be a good experience for the team, and hopefully they make it this year, but this is still a young team with much work to be done.

I'm not ready to throw in rthe towel, yet. I want to see how we do in Auburn. If we play flat with no enthusiasm and still can't throw it in the ocean, then we are finished.

The list of candidates among SEC teams for the tournament is not long: KY, FL, MSU, Vandy...

After that it's us, Ole Miss, or Arky.  The NCAA will likely take at least 5 SEC teams, and it's up to us to get there.  Ole Miss has a tough road yet; us not so much.  Arky's remaining games aren't too bad.  Bama @ Arky may decide the bid.
