What PC Bullcrap! Name after it after a war hero not a liberal opposing freedom!
My dad just rolled over in his grave. He was a Navy Lt. Cmdr fighter pilot that fought in WWII and flew missions in "Hellcats" off of the USS Essex CVN -9 aircraft carrier in all the Pacific Ocean campaigns for 4 years! He flew 8 missions in one day. I have his WWII flight logs. Dad stayed in the Navy selective service for 30 years until they forced him to retire! He even wrote Congressman Bill Nichols in 1971 trying to continue to serve this country. WTF!
When we were kids dad would flow over and buzz our house in Concord Alabama! Wave his wings at use! That was so cool!

The Secretary of the Navy announced on Friday that a new littoral combat ship will be named after former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).The announcement comes the same day that President Obama signed the last piece of legislation sponsored by Giffords, a bill aimed at reducing drug trafficking along the American borders with Canada and Mexico.
Giffords, who recently stepped down from office, was the target of a shooting rampage in early January 2011.
“The name this ship bears and the story represented by that name will inspire all those who come in contact with her,” said Navy Secretary Ray Mabus at a naming ceremony at the Pentagon Friday.
