Steele will return for a fifth season. Releford will add skill and leadership.

Trevor Lacey, Levi Randolph, Rodney Cooper and Nick Jacobs showed many flashes as freshmen. Their development will drive the team.

"We just look to get better," Lacey said. "We lose JaMychal Green, but we've shown we can play without him.

"It's bad that we didn't give JaMychal a good weekend and advance, but I'm looking forward to next season with all the guys we have coming back."

Releford was asked about Grant's message to the team following Friday's loss.

"He was proud of the stuff we overcame and how far we've come," Releford said. "To keep your heads up, and next year, you'll know what to expect. Just try to get back here. You'll know what it's like."

Would of-could of-should of, seems to be the label for the team this year. There was a lot of this talked about after about one third into the season and it seemed to be a fitting description for the team.

If ever there was an example of losing a teams leadership, Bama was a prime example of that this season. JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell had everything a player could want as far as improving their chances of finishing their careers on a high note and moving on to the next level of basketball. But both of them fell victem of that dreaded disease called, "being bigger than the team". CAG made a bold but correct decision when he dismissed Mitchell from the team and suspended Green for four games. These two may have played the discipline down as no big deal, but as time moves on, both will look back realize how stupid they really were.

Mitchell can help this team and himself, if he is permitted to come back on the team, but only if he chooses to be that leader of the team, a title that he once held. There is a lot of talent in the youngsters returning, and a load of experience that they gained from this years season returning next year, but who will that leader be next season. Mitchell is the right man for the job, but only if he has grown up to be a man and accept the role that the others will follow. That's a big "if" but it could happen and only time will tell. Roll Tide!!  Angry

Good post Jamos.

I have my doubts if Mitchell will be allowed back. If he does come back he needs to have his head on straight or it will become yet anther distraction and we do not need that.

I think Andrew Steele and Releford will be our leaders next year. A second year guy like Lacey or Randolph could also come forward. We have a lot of talent returning. We need a big man to improve there game to help Jacobs on the front line.

Where do we stand with recruiting.? Do we have anyone coming in next year that could help immediately?

I'm not sure, it seems like he was after a couple of in-state players early on but I'm not sure how many he can sign this year. We're only losing one so it can't be many that he's allowed this year. If Mitchell leaves I wonder if that opens up a slot.

Engstrom is a little help-- situationally only. Another year may help.

He has not been playing BB very long. He improved a lot from his freshman to this yrar. I think he can help us more next year if he works hard this summer. I don't ever see him being a starter or a big scorer.

Mitchell as team leader next year?  I hope not.  That would be the same direction the team took this year, with JMG as a team leader.  Instead, I hope that CAG's recruits become the team leaders:  the class of freshmen, Randolph, Jacobs, Lacey, and Cooper, and sophomores, Releford, Hankerson and Gueye (and Eblen).  Steele would be a good team leader after his assistant position, and his playing style, but I think the team might be better off either without Mitchell, or with Mitchell as a role player but not in a leadership role.  Those freshmen and sophomores need to take matters into their own hands if the team is going to do something big next year.

He's timid. Afraid to mix it up. He's needs to be playing all day and evening this summer. Not just a 2 hour auxillary gym game, but play like we did in high school-- all day long-- against the best guys (maybe B'Ham) he can find.

Make it-take it, run and gun, and no blood no foul ball--you know which kind I mean.

He played on an International team fro Sweden last year and they said it helped him a lot. He was very good defensively this year but his hands are made of stone.

Like Mitchell or not, he has a lot of skills but he also has a problem with the CAG. If he can come back as the player that CAG wants out of him, he would be a huge asset to the team but as I said above, that is a BIG "if".

Mitchell, if he comes back, needs to show hustle to go along with that talent. Showboating for dunks isn't going to get it either. He has the tools to be a complete player, but it's up to him to do that, and he needs to do it with a positive attitude.

All our young guys this year showed flashes of good play, but "stinky thinking" cost them too many games. Next year they need get that 6 inch space between their ears more focused on making shots instead of being afraid to miss them. We really need one more "skilled" big man. Gueye has injury issues, which costs him experience to be a good player, and Engstrom, IMO, will never be an offensive weapon. We need somebody to spell Jacobs where there isn't such a steep drop off in talent.

Good comments & observations folks. We have some real solid players coming back next year in Randolph, Lacey, Steele, Cooper, Jacobs, & Releford, all of whom should be much better after a year of experience. Guys I expect to see improvement include Hankerson & Eblen, who did a good job relieving Releford during a game at the point. If one of our 7 footers can improve enough to start, lookout! We lose only one senior and I expect Mitchell back, which just adds to our team's overall strength. In recruiting, we have one committment, a 6'8" PF out of North Carolina. Since we lose only one senior, I don't know if we can sign anyone else, unless someone doesn't come back and opens up space for recruiting. I see us able to win 25 games in the regular season.
