Holtz wanted to emphasize how good Alabama's top-ranked defense was last season, capping things with a 21-0 victory over LSU in the BCS Championship Game.

"Let me put it this way: In 13 games last year, they gave up nine touchdowns, against the best opponents in the country," Holtz said. "In one bowl game, Clemson gave up 10 touchdowns to West Virginia.

My first date with my wife was to the 1986 Bama vs Notre Dame game in B'ham. It was an afternoon game and we were meeting a friend of mine and his date for lunch at Golden Rule BBQ in Hoover before the game. My friend drove up and had SCREW LOU in big white letters on his rear window. It made a good first impression with my wife.

That was the year we finally beat ND. You will remember this play.

I was also there for that game. I was a little younger (**cough, cough**), but I remember how excited my dad and I were over winning.
