On its way to its first 55 wins of the season, Alabama loved no inning more than the first.
On college softball's biggest stage Thursday at the Women's College World Series, the Crimson Tide did what it always seems to do in its first at-bats.
Before it registered a single out, No. 2 Alabama jumped on No. 7 Tennessee's Ivy and Ellen Renfroe for four runs in the first inning. That was all sophomore ace Jackie Traina needed to keep the Lady Vols from ever threatening to take the lead back, as the Crimson Tide claimed a 5-3 victory at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
Alabama (56-7) will play the winner of tonight's game between No. 3 Arizona State and No. 11 Oregon on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. Tennessee (52-13) will face the loser in an elimination game Saturday.
