Alabama football early enrollee Trey DePriest making an early impact |

Published on April 01, 2011 at 10:20:27 AM
TUSCALOOSA -- Trey DePriest was standing in line to register for a high school football combine when a name on the shirt in front of him jumped out, "Sunseri." The linebacker from Springfield (Ohio) High knew a Sunseri. He got the attention of the kid wearing the shirt and asked, "Is coach Sal your dad?" Vinnie Sunseri acknowledged he was the youngest son of Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri, and the bond already established with the Crimson Tide began to strengthen even more. "We exchanged information and we've been talking ever since," DePriest said in February. "We have a good relationship now." So good the two became roommates in January when they enrolled for the spring semester fresh out of high school. Already, DePriest appears to have made a good choice, earning the praise of his new team and Alabama coach Nick Saban through the first two weeks of spring practice. Click here for link

BR: Why Saban Won't Feature a One-Back System With Richardson |
E-Cred: 6111
Published on April 01, 2011 at 10:03:54 AM
University of Alabama's Trent Richardson is on every sportswriter in America's short list of best college running backs and it's a reputation he has not only earned, but will also prove yet again this year. So why won't Alabama coach Nick Saban feature him in a one man show and give him say 35 or 40 carries a game like Spurrier does with Marcus Lattimore? Saban has been asked this before, when Mark Ingram was on route to win the Heisman Trophy, and his answer left no doubt that Richardson would not be a solo show any more than Ingram was. "That's not how we do things. We believe in giving both backs opportunities and it is something that's better for them and for us as a team," Saban said. He's never been a believer in "getting in a rhythm" as you hear some coaches say, or the belief that the the more you run the ball the stronger you get as the game goes on. "Running backs don't get better as the game goes on, but defenses that are getting tired can make it look that way." Saban said about the latter. Click here for link

Wed Practice Report |

Published on April 01, 2011 at 09:16:12 AM
Been rather busy guys, better late than never right? So we had a group of visitors Wed to practice from Prattville 4 players and HC, good to see a great in-state program paying attention and coming in to visit. Also some bad news to report, Brandon Moore has moved out of the dorm and will likely either transfer or leave Bama. Also Alex Watkins suffered a pretty nasty knee injury today, no word yet but it appears to possibly be of the season-ending (torn MCL & ACL) but we don't know for sure yet, I'll surely let you guys know when we do
Now on to some good news:
- You guys know by now that Duron Carter will be visiting this weekend and we fully expect to have a commitment by the time h leaves campus. He's had to speed up the process since he will enroll as early as he is allowed to start classes and WO's this Summer. He has been working out at a gym in Kansas with several NFL WR's (Pierre Garçon, a couple KC Chiefs guys) and Garçon called Coach Groh (who recruited him so they have a relationship, also likely the reason we have the inside track on him, that and daddy Cris is impressed with CNS' program and commitment to academics and personal growth of the young men) and told Coach Groh he felt Carter could pick his school and be a starter, also said a group of about 4 other NFL WR's have a set WO and Duron follows it as well and it's very rigorous, Garçon said he didn't think he could do it in college, but he sai Duron was a better athlete than even a lot of NFL WR's right now, compared him to (I know, shocked me too to hear the comparison) Julio and Larry Fitzgerald, Garçon also said no doubt after he finishes his career at Bama (if he chooses us) that he'll be the TOP WR off the board in the NFL Draft he feels like Duron is THAT talented RIGHT NOW!!! Some VERY encouraging words from an NFL Pro Bowl WR. So if/when he commits it's a HUGE deal for our needs at WR.
- The 2 groups are really starting to separate themselves at DL, looks like Chapman at NG with Jesse as the back-up there (at least for now, but Jesse will also play a good bit) and Damion Square at 1 end (again at least for now with Brandon Lewis and Darrington Sentimore as back-ups but both WILL PLAY) and Ed Stinson at the other end (AMAZING TRANSFORMATION from Jack LB and 255 to DE at 278, and a number of guys will also be back-up here) also in 4 down nickel and dime situations depending on pass rush or run stopping sets there will be groups coming in, on passes we'll likely see Sentimore and possibly Jesse Williams since both are pass rush demons in the middle, on jumbo or running downs likely a group of Quinton Dial (who is easily our best run stopper, every double team drill he's focused on his man and pushes through in about 3 sec EVERY time really impressive and massive as well a VERY large man LoL, and Josh Chapman or Brandon Ivory, both those guys are athletic enough to be great against the run and finally Jesse Williams is also a guy we'll likely see a lot of in run downs as well, he's our version of Marcell Dareus-Lite this year LoL, and at Jack of course Upshaw and behind him Adrian Hubbard and in certain pass rush situations there's a possibility of CJ Mosley an Nico in the middle and Hightower at Jack and Upshaw at DE, our depth is ridiculous on the DL this year.
- The competition at QB continues to be fierce, it's very evident that both guys are good enough with a lot of the skills needed, so intangibles are gonna win out, how each one reacts to ints etc, how well each one leads and the decisions on reads and all this will factor in for the right QB to win, like I said it's still an ongoing battle, both guys still look beastly, great problem to have.
- The ridiculous depth problem is also at ILB with SEVERAL likely candidates who could go and start anywhere else (I firmly believe that about Trey DePriest, as a TF he could've picked Ohio St say for an example and been a STARTER as a TF at MLB, he's a good one and the real deal, very similar to Hightower in a lot of aspects coming in as a TF) and the definitive leader of the group is Hightower of course an after that we have 3 others who are worthy of starting so it's also a fierce battle between Mosley, Nico, and Chris. All 3 will likely see a good bit of PT and again a nice problem to have.
- Alright guys have to go, we have a light practice scheduled today and prep for our 1st scrimmage tomorrow so I'll be on here later with more stuff for y'all

Too many breakdowns cost Alabama an NIT title |

NEW YORK -- JaMychal Green had the best seat in Madison Square Garden, but it was the last place he wanted to be Thursday night.
The star junior forward sat on Alabama's bench in foul trouble for eight long minutes of the second half of the NIT championship game. For the last 1½ minutes of that stretch, he sat on the sidelines at center court, in front of the scorer's table.
As he sat there longing to get back in the game, he waited for a whistle to blow. And he waited. And he waited.
While he was waiting, Wichita State (29-8) won the NIT championship. In a 90-second stretch, it stretched a six-point lead by six more points and pulled away for a 66-57 victory.
"It was tough sitting on the sideline watching my teammates suffer," Greens said. More from Kausler - Click here for link

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 1 ranked Alabama softball team opened its two-week road trip with a 7-1 victory over the College of Charleston, Thursday night at the Patriot Point Sports Complex. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 34-2 on the season while the Cougars fall to 21-13. It took Alabama four innings to get to Cougar pitcher Alex Datko, but it was junior Jennifer Fenton who got things going. The outfielder collected the first hit of the contest for the Tide in a big way as she hit a solo home run over the tall wall in left for her seventh homer of the season. The big inning for Alabama came in the fifth when the Tide put four on the board. Sophomore Jackey Branham brought in the first run of the frame with a single up the middle that plated pinch-runner Ryan Iamurri. Sophomore Keima Davis then provided the power with a lined-shot over the wall in centerfield for a three-run home run to give the Tide a 5-0 lead. Click here for link

2011 SEC Preview: Arkansas and Florida Lead the Dark Horse CandidatesWith Alabama and LSU being the heavily favored front runners to win the SEC in 2011, let's take a look at the best candidates to upset them and steal the right to hoist the SEC trophy this coming season. In consideration from the East are UGA, USC, and UF while Arkansas and MSU stand out in the West as this years best candidates to overthrow the pre-season favorites. The progress made during the spring and fall camps as well as the final tally of off-season transgressions (TBD) by all teams involved could very well affect these predictions, but as of today, Florida and Arkansas stand-out above the rest. Here is why
