Square ditches his knee brace too...poised for a complete return to form his second season off the injury.
Its fantastic, he said Monday afternoon. Matter of fact I realized by taking the brace off that its better. I wore the brace last year because of a fear of taking it off, it almost became a part of me. Taking it off this spring I go home and Im like, Man, my knee is unbelievable. Its been this way for a while, but I didnt put any trust in it.
I gave it a chance this spring and theres no looking back.... Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower has returned to form |

TUSCALOOSA -- Dont'a Hightower feels better than he did a year ago, even a few months ago. If you ask about his health, Alabama's senior linebacker rapidly fires a monologue that rips away at the inquiry with words such as "better" and "good" and "100 percent." Last spring, Hightower really began the big climb to recover from a from a major knee injury that robbed him of almost his entire sophomore season. Now Hightower is fast, furious and ready to lead the Crimson Tide defense the way many always believed he would. "I just feel like this defense is going to be back to where it needs to be," Hightower said. "Not necessarily about me making the plays or me making the big hit but more or less about me being able to push my teammates to make that extra step to beat me to the ball before I get there, to beat me to the interception. I feel very confident in this defense this year." Click here for link

Williams takes aim at TE spotChase Goodbread 28 March 2011 TideSports.com Senior Writer TUSCALOOSA | The first thing to come out of Damion Square's mouth when asked about teammate Michael Williams Monday was "Mike's a big guy."
Darius Hanks' first words?
"He's huge."
The University of Alabama tight end certainly stands out on the roster as well, listed at 6-foot-6 and 269 pounds. The former Pickens County standout has watched for three years as the tight ends before him have taken hold of the starting job with a strong sense of leadership. Now, he and senior-to-be Brad Smelley are competing as the veterans, rather than as the understudies.
"I always go back to when I first got here and we saw Nick Walker lead the tight ends, then Colin Peek and Preston Dial," Williams said. "Most people would probably say it's Smelley's time. I hope it's me. We'll see how the spring goes, this summer, and what happens this fall."
Working at the position along with Williams and Smelley are Chris Underwood and freshmen Harrison Jones and Brian Vogler. Williams concedes that his size and skill set lend themselves to blocking, but he would like to shed the notion that he isn't as effective as a receiver... ( FULL ARTICLE)

Alabama hopes to take bite out of Big AppleBy Michael Casagrande Staff Writer March 29, 2011 at 3:30 a.m. NEW YORK — Spotting the outsiders was a cinch among the lunchtime crowd at Baruch College on Monday afternoon. Dressed in crimson sweats, headphones over ears, the Alabama basketball team traversed and the bustling midtown Manhattan crowd took notice. Then, down four flights of stairs, the Crimson Tide found a small underground gym where the real work began. Just 24 hours before meeting one the nation’s most explosive offenses, coach Anthony Grant had one final opportunity to install the game plan. By 8:30 p.m. today, his team will be six avenues over and nine streets uptown at the sport’s most recognizable address. The NIT semifinal meeting with Colorado pits the 11th-best scoring offense (80.1 points per game) against the Tide’s eighth-ranked scoring defense (59.2 ppg)... FULL ARTICLE HERE

NEW YORK - Not only does second-year coach Anthony Grant have Alabama in the Final Four of the NIT, but he and two assistant coaches have fingerprints all over one of the Final Four teams in the NCAA tournament.
Grant and assistants John Brannen and Tony Pujol coached three seasons, through 2009, at Virginia Commonwealth, which stunned top-seeded Kansas on Sunday in a regional final.
"I'm really, really happy and proud of what those guys have been able to accomplish," Grant said Monday. "Coach (Shaka) Smart and his staff have done an outstanding job as well as those kids. I'm really happy for them, for what they've accomplished for VCU, for the city of Richmond and everybody associated with the program." More from Kausler - Click here for link
