Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said the discussion centers on a four-team playoff inside the existing bowl structure with the championship game up for bid nationally.

Huh? Conference champs? 4 best teams?

Why all the love for Notre Dame? They have been nothing in football for 20 years. This is almost like a Sandusky-like love affair.

The BCS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick on Wednesday endorsed a seeded four-team playoff model for college football that would begin for the 2014 season.

Before I'll know what to think about this, I want to see the criteria the Selection Committee has to follow, and how strictly they have to follow it.  Also want to know who will be on the committee, or at least how it will be formed.

But if done right, this could be a step forward.

I have no faith in a committee. You can bet your life there will be a Big Ten "homer" and probably a Notre Dame fan on the committee. It will be stacked against the SEC.

 Tinfoil Hat

Before I pull out my tinfoil hat on this, I want to see who will actually be on the committee. Unless I missed it in the story, there was no information on that, my guess being that is one of the details that still needs to be hammered out. Will it be the conference commissioners? Coaches? Appointed members from every conference?

Here's a link to an al.com story with a little more info:

I share all the concerns that Marshal and cb have voiced.  We won't know the real story and all the risks for a while; until more details come out.  Slive seems OK with it but he could be doublecrossed as the details unfold.

IF the committee is composed of knowledgable football people, and IF they are required to watch all the games (at least the key games), and IF they actually watch all the plays in all those games, then at least they will be making an informed decision.  (Yea I know...IF...IF...IF...)  But all people have biases.

It's not clear that the details have been worked out yet.  All the announcement said was a four team playoff, and there has been some vague reference to a committee.  The playoff would be a plus-one format within the structure of existing bowl games, with the title game at a neutral site to be bid out.  These details, while important, seem still in the works.

Exactly why I am not donning the tinfoil hat yet. I want to see where this goes and hope against hope that the powers that be get it right.

Hey guys don't you think Mike Slive would have an inside idea before he voted any way at all? I would say it will be equal for us, SEC, as much as possible or he would have been speaking up. RTR!
