I found this comment in the comment section of an article on AL.com. The arcticle had nothing to do with this post. I just found this post interesting. The Bama - barners are going at it pretty good over there.

During my time at Auburn teaching and going to class, it was(and apparently still is) the over-riding mission of the Auburn leadership to focus upon football. Promoting and protecting that interest is task number one for Lowder, Rane and company. Task #2 was to return Auburn back to pre-1965 days: White, male dominated campus, with black students limited and black athletes coddled on the field and hidden off the field.

Auburn is on the cutting edge of using runner/agents to recruit poor, black inner-city kids. Trooper Taylor’s main role on the AU staff is as to use his contacts to find kids with agents with their hand out for cash. He served the same role at Tennessee & Oklahoma State. Tennessee took a while to realize that Trooper causes divisions on the team but finally eased him out. Ok. St. was much quicker to rid itself of his stench. Auburn didn’t hire him away from the Cowboys, him and Curtis Luper got out ahead of the posse. Auburn’s recent recruiting success is based solely on finding those 6-8 kids that are inclined to accept cash to play(Cam Newton, come on down! You are the winner of $180,000 to play for a team you don’t want to!).

Until the NCAA decides to find a way to revisit the Cam Newton decision, little headway in enforcement will occur. Auburn has found out that there is no entity besides the national press to try and stop their illegal recruiting practices. However, it looks as if the NCAA is slowly coming to life re: AU and that some example of extreme punishment is awaiting Auburn. Just as Roy Kramer & the NCAA hammered Alabama over illegal booster activity as an example to others, Auburn is on the cusp of being this decades NCAA batch

Good catch pmull-- here is one that should be required viewing,--not for Tide fans but the fans of the Big 12:

Another game that could be worth a watch for Tide fans: Iowa State's stunning upset of Oklahoma State, which indirectly led to the Tide's unlikely berth in the BCS Championship Game. That game, ranked No. 11 on the countdown, will air at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 13.

The Championship game against LSU was on ESPNU this morning. I jumped in at the 3rd qtr with the score 12-0. My wife woke up and came to the den and said "are you watching that again". That game is required viewing for anyone who thinks we were not the best team in the country. To quote Brent Musburger "This is a mauling folks, a mauling". Musburger got real excited when LSU crossed the 50 yd line with 6:00 to go in the game. Herbstriet clammed him down and reminded him they have a long way to go to get points.

One of Bear's last letters went to an 8 year old boy.

(Check out the Goodyear ad below the article. You could get your oil changed for $11 in 1983.)

Greenbrier Classic on CBS (2-5pm).

This is a great infomercial for our state. Not sure what commercials are regional and which are national, but the tourism ads are running back-to-back. So is anyone here interested in the BAMAWV theory of tourism for the state? Anyway,--here goes:

My first theory has to do with trolling and rubbernecking for hillbillies. Tourism receives a boost from neighboring states and passers through, that get off the beaten path to LOL at the stereotypical coonskin hat crowd. While it is best to remain close to the interstate highway system, if you keep your windows up and a good road map on hand, you should be OK. Another good idea is to have some plausible destination in mind, such as an exhibition coal mine or rattlesnake rafting, in case someone should ask, "What are y'all doing up this holler?"

My second theory for the numbers of tourist visiting the state is that the visitors are, indeed, displaced WV's coming home to visit or show their new family around the old stomping grounds. When workingt class West Virginians reach age 18 (with or without a diploma) We head out to find work. North Carolina, Texas, Florida, ---anywhere with jobs will do.  But at some point these people get homesick and bring the new family back to the old homestead. They travel around the state, dine in restaurants, and stay in hotels. They are almost impossible to differentiate except the corn cob pipes are not brand new from a tourist trap gift shop.

Also we have a combination of the two theories where people pack up the car and bring the new family home to laugh at the old family.  RTR

Don't come here merely to take advantage of us but my high school buddy and I are always looking for someone to gamble and golf with. We don't play much (15 months for me) so if you spot Harold and I a couple of strokes...

Harold and his mom.

So, now we have a playoff at The Greenbrier.  Some guy rated 500th and another rated 250th.  This is fun; we can all identify.  "It's in the hole!"
