My wife's family live in the Huntington, WV area. They have been w/o power since the storm. Her dad, who is in his late 70's and has lived in the area all his life told my wife that he has never seen such a storm as this in all his years.

They were told they may have power restored by the middle of the week.

Thanks, Merk.  Good to hear from you.

after katrina , they were rationing gas so it was real easy to get
setting in line for two or three hours to get your allotment had the suck

our generator is one of those that will run the whole house so it
will suck down six gallons before a cat can lick his fur
my freakin power bill is pennies compared to the
gas hog generator's cost per day  .

I promised my wife and myself that I would never complain about
our power bill again ... bring it on Alabama power !

Wow, I knew things were bad up through there, but I did not know they were this bad. We have friends in Maryland who just got their power back yesterday. Prayers to WV and his folks that all will be online soon.  Pray

Okay, we're 2 days into this now, and no word from WV.  You guys and gals all keep him (and the rest of the folks in that region) in your prayers.

You'd think with this technology in his backyard he'd be able to send us a message.  But I guess it only receives messages, and they have to be from the cosmos.

As a FYI, no cell service in the area of these radio telescopes. Not sure if this is an issue or not for him.

Bummer.  He said he's 1.5 miles from one, so you may be right.  He's probably okay, just without power.
I'll bet he's busy being that good-neighbor guy, helping clear trees and cooking for the mountain folks (without a mean-spirited bone in his body).  Disasters bring out the best in Bama fans!  I'll mention him in the prayers... just in case it helps.

I had my share of working storm damage in my early years with the phone company and I can understand how long it takes to restore utilities back to service for all those people. There is so much envolved but first the utility poles must be set and possibly cell towers replaced and that takes a lot of time and a lot of technicians.

May God bless all of them, this massive heat wave is only compounding their misery.

Not sure how I've missed this until now...anyway, add another to the tally of folks rooting for you, WV.

He seems like a tough old goat, so I'm sure he'll come out of it fine.
