Penn State fans and his son Jay are still in denial. Hitler would have loved these folks, blindly loyal to the end.

Quote
In an ongoing online poll on the Fight On State premium forum, roughly 60 percent of the respondents say the Paterno statue should remain at Beaver Stadium. Forty percent say it should be removed.

“While it is up, it is a lightening rod for criticism of Penn State,” wrote the user NorthsideLion. “We need to move forward.”

The user Elmgrovegnome countered, “I am not going to kowtow to the media. Joe has done much more good than he has done bad. Let the statue stand for the good things he has done. Nobody is perfect.”

The debate is not limited to internet forums. While being interviewed on ESPN Radio in State College Thursday, former Florida State coach and longtime Paterno rival Bobby Bowden said he thought the statue should go. Paterno's son, former PSU quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno, earlier told ESPN the statue should stay.

“The emotional response right now is maybe to go take the statue down,” Jay Paterno said. “… That's not going to heal victims. That's

What the h**l would daddy's little boy know about the feelings of the rape victims of Joe Paterno's negligent, non-caring attitude?

They better take it down soon because those folks are going to need to be toughened up for what is to come. Football will be suspended for a year and maybe two. If those folks dont start getting their heads around this, folks will be jumping off buildings when the big shoe drops.

The Board of Trustees is too cowardly to remove the Paterno statue, so I sure don't see them canceling the football season. Also, the NCAA is not going to do anything of note to a beloved Big Ten school.

I expect the school to go into damage control at some point. At that time the statue will come down. I think a large donation will be make to some organization who helps child molested victims. If the NCAA shows up and starts asking questions (and I think they will) look for them to offer up some scholarships and bowl ban. I do not think they will drop football for even 1 game nor do I think they should. The Sandusky/Paterno scandal will harm Penn St ability to recruit more than NCAA penalties will.

I think this scenario is possible, especially after the trial of the PSU admins and I'm positive the ex-president will be indicted for lying. I think when they start facing prison and/or are convicted, they will give up the truth and state Paterno was against going to the police over Sandusky's actions. Then the statue has to come down and the NCAA will feel compelled to do something.

Just give the PSU fans 2 options:

1.  The Paterno statue comes down, or
2.  A Sandusky statue goes up next to it.

I agree and this is why I think the BOT will self-impose a football ban before this trial occurs. If they don't, and wait to do something until it looks like they have no other choice, they miss the opportunity to separate themselves from the toxic culture they claim to want to purge from the University. This is the very last chance they have to look proactive about this mess.

Outstanding point. Sadly, the "cult of reverence" has done its damage. Now, the BOT has to prove it is serious about making significant changes at PSU. A giant major first step would be to remove the statue and rename any streets/buildings named after Paterno.

This statement is a perfect example of what is wrong with this situation. While no one is perfect, excusing child sexual abuse and its cover up by simply saying that no one is perfect is pretty sickening. This is a horrendous situation at PSU, and they would be well advised to distance themselves from ALL of those involved (including JoePa) immediately.

The ancient Roman emperors used to practice "damnata memoriae" (damnation of memory) in which they would order the destruction or removal of statues or portraits of their disgraced family members.

The embattled members of Penn State's Board of Trustees quietly have decided to leave Joe Paterno's statue standing -- at least for now and, some hope, forever, according to sources with firsthand knowledge of the trustees' private discussions this week.

The trustees' reluctance to remove the statue is motivated, in part, by a desire not to offend alumni and students who adore the late coach despite the damning findings of his role in the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse cover-up detailed in the Freeh report, the sources said. Some trustees also said in interviews they want to resist being pressured by the media into a sudden decision about such an emotionally charged issue.

Aw, bless their hearts, they don't want to offend alumni and students. Screw the poor, defenseless boys who were sexually abused, as long as the alumni and students don't get their feelings hurt.
