This is an amazing story. Bob Huggins was not coach there at the time, but this is something I can see him doing.
Jonathan Hargett, a top-10 recruit in the Class of 2001 with a cross-over dribble to rival Allen Iverson, surprised the college basketball world a decade ago when he signed with West Virginia.
He now says it was because he was promised, among other things, $20,000 per year to play for the Mountaineers.
Dan Dakich, now an ESPN analyst, was hired to succeed Catlett but resigned eight days after taking the West Virginia job. Dakich told the Times of his first meeting with Hargett, where the star guard told him Catlett and Cheeks had lied to him because “they promised me $60,000 and only gave me $20,000.”
When pressed on the issue of why he left West Virginia after only eight days on the job, Dakich told the Times: “What I found was a culture of dishonesty, and that had been there for a while.” Dakich did not elaborate.
