It’s not so much what was said or who said it during Wednesday’s HBO Real Sports show. It’s the timing of new allegations that ex-Auburn football players received pay for play.
It comes when the NCAA is believed to be still probing former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton’s recruitment.
It comes weeks after NCAA officials reportedly went to Thibodaux, La., to probe the recruitment of current Auburn players from there.
Throw in that five former players were recently dismissed from the team — four following arrests on charges including first-degree robbery — and the drip-drip-drip of bad news just keeps making Auburn’s proverbial bucket heavier.
