Notre Dame will join the Atlantic Coast Conference as a full member with the exception of football, but will play five football games annually against ACC teams ...

There was talk of this this summer.  The SEC wouldn't take a team unless it committed to football too.

I think they will, eventually join football.  I also think they are a good fit for the ACC.

Notre Dame is taking the cowards way. Their football program can compete against the weak ACC football teams so ND can drop teams like Michigan State from the schedule. Plus, they can rake in the money from the ACC BB TV contracts.

Come to think of it, also Navy, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Army, Georgia Tech, Illinois...

ND boards use the excuse of their academic standards limiting their recruiting. That never slowed them down in the past. It was once considered America's team. Players from all over the country bought in and it led to the NBC contract. But due to poor AD decisions-- mostly poor choices in coaching--the ND mystique has gone away and the program has lapsed into mediocrity. Maybe someday they'll have to recruit a kid that actually lives in Indiana.

Chicago is a pretty big place and only a few miles down the road - that's twice the number of people as the entire state of Alabama right there.

They are about 75 miles apart, pretty good drive to go have a beer, listen to music, and participate in activities with other blacks. Don't have to drive as far in Tuscaloosa, Miami, Gainesville, Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Dallas, or other places. Plus, you missed the part about that wonderful weather in Indiana.
