Too many breakdowns cost Alabama an NIT title

NEW YORK -- JaMychal Green had the best seat in Madison Square Garden, but it was the last place he wanted to be Thursday night.

The star junior forward sat on Alabama's bench in foul trouble for eight long minutes of the second half of the NIT championship game. For the last 1½ minutes of that stretch, he sat on the sidelines at center court, in front of the scorer's table.

As he sat there longing to get back in the game, he waited for a whistle to blow. And he waited. And he waited.

While he was waiting, Wichita State (29-8) won the NIT championship. In a 90-second stretch, it stretched a six-point lead by six more points and pulled away for a 66-57 victory.

"It was tough sitting on the sideline watching my teammates suffer," Greens said.

Depth made a big difference. Alabama didn't have an answer when Green went to the bench. Ten Wichita State players logged at least 11 minutes and no more than 29 minutes. None of the Shockers scored more than 12 points. Their bench outscored Alabama's bench 27-7.

WS was red hot the final 4 minutes. The were torrid from the field hitting those treys. Thats something you can't defense...

They were a good team. Well coached and as several have said they had depth. Depth as we know is so important. Rest does wonders for the legs. RTR!

They got hot at the end but they only scored 66 points. Our problem was we only scored 57 points. Thats not going to win many games. The year ends on a sour note but the future looks great.
