TUSCALOOSA -- A statue of Nick Saban will be unveiled at approximately 12:40 p.m. on A-Day outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium along the Walk of Champions, Alabama announced Friday afternoon.

It will be the fifth statue joining national championship coaches Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Paul Bryant and Gene Stallings. Plaques will honor players and staff members of the national championship teams.

I thought when he accepted the job he would win a championship. The real question is how many championship teams will be referenced on the statue when he retires.

First, let me preface my post that I think CNS will someday leave UofA in an honorable and distintive manner. But suppose we have a coach that wins a NC, but then gets convicted of, in the extreme, child molestation. We are stuck with a "Chester the Molester" statue beside BDS. Just feel that statues should be erected after a coach's tenure or death.

I think if you win a football championship you have earned a statue. But I agree with BAMAWV that we should wait until until at least the coach is retired. Chester the Molester is one extreme example but another concern would be if the coach leaves for another NCAA school.

Better take down the Wallace Wade statue.

I was thinking of a different scenario. I had someone leaving for another school like Coach Fran did. At the time the Wallace Wade statue was erected he was not, nor was he ever, an embarrassment to the school.

In a case like that I guess we could all rally together and have a statue removal party:
