Thats the word at the base I work at this afternoon. I've been through this before in 95...it lasted 3 days. Hopefully, we'll get this resolved...and out of the way.

Anyone else here from Federal Service, or a Contract Agency that may be under the gun?

I think there are several.  We had a pretty good discussion earlier down in the president's mansion.

I'm purty sure, they will have something in place to take care of our Active Duty Military Personnel. Talking with my Division Chief (Lt Col) he has been in contact with his superiors, and they feel they same way. The DoD, in part with Congress will extend these services...IMO.

I work for a DoD contractor in a government building.  Getting conflicting reports from gov PM and our contract PM.  Gov is encouraging waiting on making another major purchase but our contract PM says that we are a "fully funded" contract so we're working.  I hope we work...

BTW, if Congress fails to agree to anything and the govt does shut down, I think all Congress members should have to work non-stop, 24 hours per day with no pay (not even delayed pay) until they reach an agreement.  Just my opinion...

It's furlough - and I never found it to be that big a deal even though the news media makes it sound like the end of the world.  I went through the government shutdown in 1995 and really can't remember the details.  Bottom line, you usually get a couple of days off (if you're non-essential personnel - that was I!) and then they bring you back in and give you back pay (although they threatened you wouldn't be paid).  Congress usually passes a continuing resolution and everything goes back to normal.  Of course ideally, Congress would pass a budget (that's what this is about anyway) but if they haven't done it by now they usually can't get it done in a couple of days.

And If the federal government still operates on the same fiscal year as it did when I worked there, the new fiscal year began last Oct 1, 2010.  So that's October, November, December, January, February, March and part of April without a real budget - 6+ months.  Over half the fiscal year gone and no permanent budget.

Before long it will be September 30 and we'll be in the same pickle again.

So chill out, get a good book, go fishing, whatever, it'll get done - probably not in the ideal fashion or resolution but then that's the government!

A, I'm federal, but fortunately (or unfortunately many times) I'm considered essential (if y'all know me, that's pretty hard to comprehend, I know...).

I just wish those kids up in that thar District of Columbia could play nice together.  Like we do here.   Tongue

The National Guard is a different animal. We have people that are active military and those that are in a civilian status during the week but military for drill weekend and annual training. They will have to use leave time. Those that are active Guard will be working without pay till they(Congress)  get their crap together, or that's the rumor anyway. Currently our budget is holding it's collective breath. We have people that are supposed to be going to schools but any travel after 5 April is still on hold. For us that puts a crimp into a lot of our statewide planning.

We've had furloughs in Georgia for the past two years and they are expecting more for next year.  Our furloughs have been with NO pay.

My school district had 7 furlough days planned this year and we ended up taking 4.  What most people don't realize is even beyond the problem of no pay, we still have to do the work that we would have done on those days.  We just have to come early or stay later on another day to get it all done.

My sympathy is for our military that will continue to do their jobs, hoping that they'll eventually be paid and for the lowest level of workers (think janitors) who may never be paid for the furlough days and can least afford a cut in pay.

I wasn't angry until I read the article today about how Obama said he'd veto the bill to extend the deadline a week.

Have an # on me. Georgia is in financial dire straights. You guys are getting a double whammy.

My understanding that all projects that are T&M will be suspended.  But firm fixed funded projects go forward.

I just looked at Drudge and discovered the Zero family is spending the weekend at Williamsburg for a "long planned family trip" and a no-fly zone has been established over Williamsburg.  Now I am really angry! Angry Pull hair Angry
