Torque wrench is a good 80-100 bucks. WIN

Really?  I found lots of them on line for $30 plus shipping.  This one has a purchase label in it (1998); made in Taiwan.  Is it a value too?  I have never used one at all.

I still have one I purchased in the 70's. Can't remember what I paid for it, though.

Chinese is typically about 1/2 the price.

If you read your various owners manuals, you will probably learn a lot of things are supposed to be tightened to certain torques.  You cant work on an engine without one.  Just about every bolt on my tractor has a torque.  My dad left me 3.  Before that I was about to buy a craftsman for like 88 bucks.

See pic above.  Clearly I need to read more about what I have.  It's a 1/2" one, about 14-16" long.  I need to see the range of torque on it.  The Craftsman ones sell for $200 (WOW).  Thanks.

Got to go to a meeting.  More later.  Thanks.  E-cred for help.

I highly recommend Craftsman.  When I got my driver's license I had a 25 year old hot rod that I drove around in.  It was a fun car, but not very dependable.  My dad bought me a 100 piece Craftsman set that I still have intact today.

One time I was using the 17mm socket on a four wheeler and the thing just cracked.  I put it back in the case and grabbed another 17mm to finish the job.  About 10 years later I finally remembered to take it into Sears and test them on their lifetime warranty.  It was probably 15 years old at the time.  Of course I didn't have a receipt or anything.  I handed it to the guy in the tools section and told him I had a bad socket.  He looked at it, saw the Craftsman logo and part number, walked over to the shelf and found it right away, and then handed the new one to me.  We hardly said 10 words to each other.  No questions asked and no explanations given.  No forms to fill out and no receipts presented.  All he needed to see was the Craftsman name and part number.

So Chech, if any of those Craftsman tools you bought have a problem, just take it to Sears and they will give you a new one.  They have them at Kmart too since Sears and Kmart merged a few years ago.  But it would probably be simpler to go to Sears since they will have a salesman on the floor dedicated to the tools section.  He will be able to find the replacement right away and will be familiar with the lifetime guarantee.

Out of all the Craftsman tools I own, and there are quite a few, that is the only one that has ever had a problem.  Most of you guys probably already knew about the lifetime guarantee, but I was very surprised at how painless it was to get a replacement.

Thanks mucho, SC.  E-cred.
I forgot that K-Mart and Sears joined up.
I've never returned a Craftsman tool, but knew they had a lifetime guarantee.  I also knew that years ago (during 1990s) Sears reduced their prices; I thought some of those guarantees went away then.  I wonder if that is true today?  I'll dig through and see if anything is damaged.  I think I'll keep this big set of sockets (200 pieces).  My son will enjoy it one day.  Grin

My brother is a diesel mechanic and has to furnish his own tools. He will not buy cheap tools. He only buys Craftsman, Snapon and MAC. You can not beat the Craftsman return policy.

I have heard that they are not made with the same quality as they used to.  90% of the tools my dad left me are late 70's/ early 80's craftsman tools that are in perfect working condition (mostly).

Including things you would expect to wear out, like a compressor, air wrench, table saw.

Like this (1/2" drive).
Maybe, if calibrated by Enron or the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
