I would say phil that you should eat what you had last year to insure another Viles butt whoopin', but considering your ordeal, I think I will refrain from such advice. No football win is worth Montezuma's revenge (or would that be Confucious' Revenge where you are at?)

He should stick to the routine, again this year. I'll bet you don't get much of a chance to help the Tide. Don't ignore this. Roll Tide in advance, knowing you will do the right thing. RTR

The fair is in town here........

Did you go to the Pensacola fair? If so, how was it?

You know, I kind of feel guilty. My 2 oldest daughters invited me to go with them and my grandson today, but I had already committed to play golf, and we're going to Opp, Al. in the morning for my MIL's birthday, so I won't make it this year.

I've put in 6 hours of splitting wood, finally stopped to watch the end (ugh) of the Ole Miss game and the LSU-Boogeater game.  Here is a nice photo of the scene of the work just behind my house.  You can see the 3 piles of wood we split today behind the splitter.  We just split wood, then moved the splitter down the hill.  We need downhill running tonight!

Ready for the Crimson Tide show now. Roll Tide.

I burn rounds that big (and up to 36"). I keep 1 pile of rounds just for all day burning or "banking the Fire" at night. You'd be through!

I can believe you need that up on the mountain.  Our fireplace is medium-sized, plus I'm gone for a month of the winter.  BTW, behind the direction the camera is facing is another tree cut in "rounds".  We have another long day tomorrow.

1:43 to go before the UT butt kicking.  RTR.

Great big fireplaces are great to enjoy but a huge waste of heat/wood. I have to burn all afternoon until a bed of coals builds up enough to not lose heat up the chimney. Reducing the dampener (there are settings/notches) helps. Green wood burns hottest but makes more smoke. But in order to keep a fire like that going, it is a job just feeding it. I try to keep a good mix of different size split wood pieces. Even sometimes I may mix in some apple or something for scent. I also shovel the coals to the side to keep good circulation around the fire. Even shoveling the embers directly onto the logs in the grate to keep (especially the ends (burning evenly). I've found a truly great fire is built, not on the grates, but in the garage by carefully mixing the wood you carry into the house.

Excellent description of an excellent plan.  But shouldn't the woman carry the wood into the house?

Yes. I find it best to take a pad of post-its to the woodpile. Number the order you wish it to be brought in. Be sure to remember that you stack inside the house in reverse order from how you will burn it. If you forget this part, they'll have to carry it all back outside, --then start over again. This could make you miss part of some game.

I'm fine today.  Last year was brutal.  Of all the days to get sick I picked the day Alabama stomped those inbred hillbillies in their own backyard.

Yes, but we're keeping everything the same as last year.  Get well soon (wink, wink).

Okay.  I'll watch the game curled up in the fetal position on the couch.

Life is good again this week.  Alabama dominates another SEC team.  We'll be ready for LSU.  And it appears that both teams will be relatively healthy.
