CBS announces Nov. 5 Alabama-LSU game to be 7 p.m. CDT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

7 PM kickoff for LSU, eh Crisp?  That's a surprise, but I think it helps us.  LSU hasn't had a night SEC game yet, as I recall.  They'll have a long wait that day.  And they won't last long that night.

We have many reasons to dislike LSU.  And as Lone Watie said to Josie Wales, "I notice when you get to DISlikin' someone they ain't around for long."  I think we'll take it to them, and the game will be over before the 4th Q.
Lone Watie: Get ready, little lady. Hell is coming to breakfast.

Oops, it's "Josey".  Embarrassed
I was gonna say that!

I know we've discussed this before, but will you geologists remind me again why the earth has experienced so many powerful earthquakes recently?

The earth's human population is approaching 7 billion.  It was 5 billion in 1990.  Thus, there are more people affected by earthquakes, and the technology to detect them is better.

Saliently, the number of quakes is not increasing.  It's fairly constant year-to-year.  It's just that the news media are fixed on disasters, and the widespread use of videos makes it appealing to watch.

But all the places getting hit have always been heavily populated; Japan, Haiti, Chile, New Zealand and now Turkey. News coverage on catastrophic earthquakes has always been heavy. If there is no significant increase, then I would guess that until recently, most have been in remote areas?

There have indeed been bad ones near population centers in recent years.  But most are beneath the ocean floor.

Japan is built by volcanoes and lies atop one of the the most active fault zone on earth.  Java and Sumatra (low-population areas) are atop another.  Convergence zones (where two tectonic plates crush together) are where most earthquakes occur (Japan, Sumatra, Chile).  Maybe people should have not built there.
