:Looking over shoulders:  I saw the hand gun that won the west bid on a couple nights ago. Single action colt revolver $125K. The owner turned it down? Mint perfect condition-- one of a kind -- supposedly? Huh?

 Laughing

My buddy at the gun shows, who sets up next to me, had one of these on his table.  Looks like an old cutting-torch tip.  His label:  "Confederate item; dug at Shiloh"

Did you catch my post on having civil war brass knuckles. I've never gotten any info on them. My first thought is counterfeit, fakes, but if not I wonder if there are many around. Ask around?

There were certainly brass knuckles during WWI and WWII.  I've seen both real and fake ones.

Civil War ones are rare.  I copied a photo of some below.  I've seen them in the CW Museum in Richmond, VA.  They do not look like the big ones used during WWI or II; rather, they are small and easily hidden.  Many of the ones used during the CW were hand-made types; legitimate ones are very difficult to confirm (no stamps, no other markings).  D-guard CW knives sometimes had knuckles in them; lots of fake ones there too.  Best rule of thumb for CW knives, swords, etc:  95% fakes.

These are a different style-- I couldn't find an image to post. Think of the ones you posted as gloves, a separate hole for each finger. These are like mittens--one large hole for your hand. Wicked.

Any markings?  PM me with a pic should you have/take one.  I'll take it to the show tomorrow.  I know a guy who should know better than me.

Unfortunately, "CSA" means it is almost certainly a fantasy (fake).  "CS" alone would be okay, but "CSA" is a red flag.  But it's still likely valuable (lots of interest and chance-takers out there).

I have a 9AM meeting, but wanted to add.  It's Etowah Iron Works, not "Etawah".  If it's misspelled, then .... [you know]  Embarrassed

It was as I posted--ETAWAH. Man. You wouldn't think the Mennonites would rip you off. Yeah--I Googled Etawah and got Etowah-- I saw that too.

It wouldn't FEEL all that fake if someone popped you on the bridge of your nose.

Longtime Finebaum caller Shane from Centerpoint dies after battle with cancer
Published: Friday, December 02, 2011, 7:42 AM     Updated: Friday, December 02, 2011, 7:45 AM

Shane Corn, a Alabama football blogger who often got under the skin of other calls and listeners. (The Birmingham News)

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- If ever you've turned the dial to Paul Finebaum's daily sports talk radio show, the name "Shane from Centerpoint" means something to you.

Whether you gritted your teeth at his outright homer-ism for his beloved Crimson Tide or you pumped your fist as he pridefully hassled national media members who appeared on the show, Shane got a daily rise out of regular listeners.

Finebaum becomes a daily fixture for so many who live and breathe college football in the South, and so do his eccentric cast of callers. Some might say Shane Corn, who died Thursday after a recent battle with lung cancer, was the quintessential Finebaum caller.

Never shy to battle caller rivals and Auburn fans like I-Man and Tammy, Shane also wanted to live out his dream of being a sportswriter, always plugging his work on the blog TideFootball.com. Some of Shane's finest moments on the air came when he'd discuss a recent column he'd dropped or when he'd passive-aggressively ask Finebaum about getting media credentials for games.

While his fandom couldn't help but creep into his blogs and calls, Shane had a gift that even some professional sportswriters do not: He could get under the reader and listener's skin without much effort at all.

The blog I remember was the Capstone Report. Shane would talk about writing with PF and act like they were colleagues. LOL

The blog I remember was the Capstone Report. Shane would talk about writing with PF and act like they were colleagues. LOL

In the early 1990s right after the 92 championship Phyllis would call in and Shane. Another caller started calling in, his name was B O B! "Bring On Bama"!

Those three made the PF show what it is today. B O B had an attorney trying to sue him for trashing him on the radio! All kinds of crazy stuff!

Phyllis from Mugla would argue with B O B.

At Legion field there is a small statue of Coach Bear Bryant for winning 315.

B O B would sing a song to Shane and Phyllis:

Tickling around the bear!

Tickling around the bear!

We’re going undefeated tickling around the bear!!!

Shane and Phyllis would tell B O B to stay from Bear’s statue that was a sacred  and holy monument and ground!!!

LOL!!!

B O B was only Auburn caller saying they would go undefeated in 1993 under Terry Bowden and they did!!

At the SEC championship game that year Florida and Bama played because Auburn was on probation.

A plane flew above Legion Field pulling a banner : Auburn. Undefeated!!

Then a little while later same plane pulling another banner:

Probation! An Auburn Tradition!

PF had already been on the air about ten years then.

Too funny!

Actually, "Etahaw" may have been an appropriate spelling of it on some items produced there.  I've seen that on other CW items.  People weren't ever good spellers in the US.  The Confererate currency produced from near here (Holly Springs Bank) was printed as "Holley Springs, Mississippi" on the currency.  We just need to see for sure.  But swords from EIW were stamped "Etowah" - HTH.
