Simp McGee's is excellent, though I've only had the pleasure of going there a couple times.  I co-oped in Decatur when I was in college (this would've been 01-02 timeframe).  I haven't eaten at Big Bob's since then...have they maintained consistent quality through the years?  We used to go to Beauregard's for wings a lot back before they shut down the Decatur location.  Actually they closed the three in Huntsville just a couple weeks ago.  Did you ever go out to Sonny's out west on 20?  I don't suppose they reopened after the tornado, did they?

Still rolling. Breaking open a whole new batch today. CLICK HERE if you want to be included in my "Fondest Memories of Ribs" album.

I'm glad you are getting some good ribs. I bet good BBQ is hard to find in WV. We are fortunate in Decatur. We have a great BBQ joint called Big Bob Gibsons. They travel to all the big BBQ contests and have an impressive trophy case. My family is coming to our house on Christmas Eve and I have ordered our turkey from them.
It is hard to find Ace#1 BBQ in WV. IDK why. We don't have very many Black people? But we love fire, and meat, and all the rest seems right up our alley. BTW, every state claims their BBQ is Ace#1. I'm pretty sure the State of Texas doesn't know the difference between BBQ and grilling. Another thing, I'm not sure Dreamland is still on my top 10-- but I'd have to eat in the original to decide.

BBQ is different every where you go. I travel to Texas a lot and they are proud of their BBQ. The beef brisket is pretty good. They do not even know what pork BBQ is. I agree with you about the BBQ vs grilling. Texas does not slow cook anything.

I've found some pretty good BBQ in El Paso.  I got to a place called State Line BBQ out on the NM border anytime I have a chance.  They do have pork ribs, though I don't recall seeing any pulled pork out there anywhere.  The beef ribs are pretty darn good though.

They're big on beef. The brisket is hard to scew up (low heat, long time, lotsa smoke). Every now and then Texas does something really dumb though, like putting BBQ sauce on a nice steak. Also they have to win by shear volume. The BBQ pacles with "world's greatest" in their name alone out number the BBQ pacles in WV.

Bib Bobs is excellant. It is still a family owned business. It is run by the grandson now. The great grandson-in-law (Chris Lilly) is very active in the business. He does the cooking for the competitions. Chris is a neighbor of mine. They have maintained good quality through the years.

I am familar with Sonny's but I never ate there. I don't know if they reopened or not.

On a lighter, less racist subject, we couldn't find good BBQ in Maryland when we lived there, either. I guess its something about being above the NC border?

Hopefully, I get my cleaning and cooking crew back from Morgantown today. But if I do not, there is always more:

Too late. Sad BTW, I wonder who picked all the raisins out of the entire box of Raisin Bran? Livin' the dream.
