Jeremy, our deck hand was a young man doing his residency at UCF in Orlando. He had all the facts on the toxin and was serious about what we were warned about.
I agree with Jeremy; it's dangerous there, and he should move away from Orlando (no baby gators there).

Talking about fish toxin. Not low T in gators.
Gees, Crisp.  You have tunnel vision.  Maybe I should tweet: "Ciguatera has very low incidence in Belize, and is limited to very large fish."
Please tell Jeremy for me.
BTW, he's a physician-in-training, not a real doctor.
Tweet it but I am not following @Chechem!
Sad  Guess my following just dropped by one (if I ever adopt tweeting).

No CAT, you have to have an account (@Chechem) first before anyone can follow you...

Start a twitter account and I will gladly follow and I bet XBAMA, navychief, and rueben and others will as well. I talked to WV about starting one as well.

Uh Hank, do we REALLY want the thoughts of WV getting out beyond this forum? At least its a controlled environment here.

Thanks, Crisp.  Didn't I warn you about that neurological damage from eating Barracuda?

Read your PM.

Lol! I wish. I'll be in Greenville to meet with my business partners.

Thanks, Chech. Make everybody behave.

I have no idea about Barracuda caught around Belize but US fishing boat captains in the Gulf and Atlantic oceans don't keep Barracuda to eat because of the toxin Ciguatera.

My son and I were fishing out of Port Carnaveral aboard the Sea Wrangler in July 2009. Russ caught a 4 foot Barrcuda and captain Joe released it because he warned of the toxin Ciguatera.

He also warned if we travel to the Bahamas that they serve Barracuda in restaurants because local fisherman there sell them to eat.

We passed a Trident nuclear sub leaving port that morning. Trident sub base is right accross from that marina north on NASA'a property.

Link to Sea Wrangler site.

My son and our catch is in picture DSC_0372_01. Russell is 3 years bigger now and doesn't look the same young man. Wearing yellow Matt Kenseth hat.

Barracuda Gone Bad: Ciguatera Fish Poisoning

Quote
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) places barracuda at the top of its list of predatory fish consumers ought to avoid. This is because large, predatory fish that live near reefs, like barracudas, have a greater chance of passing along ciguatera fish poisoning. As its name implies, the poisoning is caused by a substance called ciguatoxin. Though ciguatera fish poisoning can stir up a highly uncomfortable spectrum of symptoms, it's rarely fatal.

Certain types of algae that breed in deep tropical waters produce ciguatoxin. More specifically, it comes from a one-celled organism called dinoflagellate that breeds on different kinds of algae. Since barracudas are carnivores, they don't consume the ciguatera-tainted algae directly. The small fish that barracuda feed on, such as tuna, herring and anchovies, eat the algae; then, the ciguatera enters the barracuda's system as it digests the fish. While barracudas process the ciguatera, the poison accumulates in their flesh, fat and viscera

Glad you made it safely, 2.  The BB team wasn't so fortunate (arrived without their heart).

Found this old photo of the New Orleans flood.  Still funny; this couple packed the essentials when evacuating: "Got my lady, got my beer, mustard, Mountain Dew..."
