Man, you guys got me wanting to go hook the boat up and head to the river. I haven't done any fly fishing in years and I used to really enjoy it.

...That and bull minnows. They like the shrimp, but so do the rays, cats, & lady fish. The minnows usually weed out the "trash" fish.

I saw a story last week with video of guys fishing Dixie Bar for Big Reds.  They used Bull Minnows.  I have done that at DB, but not for several years.

This time of year I like to chum over snapper offshore (as last week) or fish schooling specs in the Bay.  You can use leadhead jigs or topwater lures once you find them, but I like live shrimp under a popping cork otherwise (over oyster beds and such).

Didn't mean to leave you out.  Glad you got rain.  Now pack up and try flyfishing.  Right now I'm thinking of going to the Smokies with my son.  Stay tuned!

Put on my walking clothes, checked the radar, then walked out into a rain shower.  WTH?  The radar showed NOTHING over us.  Then I saw that the image hadn't auto-updated for half an hour.  Grrr.

J, I promised X that I would go fishing with him this month. You and Chech ought to come down and let's fill up his boat with, if nothing else, us. Whaddya think, X?

I can't, but that's very generous.  I promised my son a flyfishing trip in the mountains.  We're meeting Sunday in the Smokies.

Rain check?  Or is that a mean-spirited weather offense?

Well, boys, I was all dressed for the morning walk, but it rained.  Now, hours later, I've finally changed from the exercise clothes.  We've had 1.5" and it's still coming down.

I blame the salad.

we're gonna need a bigger boat   Shocked

 Laughing Laughing Laughing :

love to 2 ... look here , big specks are hitting live pogies
right now , not touching anything else , talking the 6-8lb'ers
they are over here anyway ...

the live shrimp will yield you the smaller fish , 2 lbs and such
but like it was said , everything eats shrimp

bull minnows are working nice on the flat fish

cast net you some live pogies or buy some if you have to
to help find the fish , put a hand full of the live pogies in a bucket
make  vigorous circles with the bucket , object is to make them dizzy
throw the handful of dizzy pogies towards where you think the
specks may be
the pogies will swim all crazy and stuff , the big specks go nuts

that is if you want the bigger specks

we went recently , I stopped counting at over 100 filets
the fishing is awesome right now , enjoy it !

Our water levels get so low this time of year the trout streams barely flow. They do not stock trout in the summer. Maybe some ponded areas have fish but even those need a fresh water feed in order for trout to survive.

We could use a guide to the Flora-Bama or the Pink Pony, if you're interested. It's not that we don't know where they are, we just want to see the expressions on the patrons' faces when you show up. It'll be classic.

Thanks, WV, for the trout advice.  The Little River (upstream) has trout all summer.  It's better during cold months, but it's July.  I fished there 2 years ago and did well.  It's not Cheat Mountain, but it's not bad.  Beautiful area around Elkmont too.

I finally got my walk this afternoon just before dark.  We had 2.8" of rain today!  Saw 2 groups of deer during the walk; they're out looking for LF's roses!
