Mornin' all. I'm a little wind blown today after playing golf yesterday in a rainless hurricane. Hope today finds you all well. Here's some #'s for you.

Hope you had fun.  Just keep the ball low, and (this time of year) it rolls for 100 yards more.

Birmingham issued a wind warning early this morning for 1-7 pm but the main storm should come in tomorrow

Okay, that makes sense.  Same here.

Smitty, I spent an hour last night catching up on your videos.  Thanks for posting, #.  Fun stuff.

glad that you enjoyed them.  I am going to play around in my sisters bar parking lot today.  It's gravel with holes, I plan to smooth it out the best I can, and make suggestions for more improvements (see if we need more rock).  People spin out their tires leaving, so I might do pretty good just spreading.

Too bad the box blade isn't there yet.  That's what you need for those jobs.

Did you seal it?

Once one of yall seals your concrete you'll be sold.

I know you're pushing that, but I haven't yet.  Today I visit Home Depot for some crack sealant and some plants.  I don't want to seal it until I fill the cracks.  I don't think the sealant will stick if I seal it first.

Another job finished yesterday: repacled the fireplace (firepacle?) gas starter.  I did that 15 years ago.  You know what I mean?  The pipe that carries gas under the logs for a quick start; best thing I installed when we built.

The pipe gets corroded.  The first one was cheaply made and corroded in 5 years.  I repacled it with galvanized, and it last 15 years.  I bought a piece of pipe with a cap on Friday, then drilled holes and installed it yesterday.  Nice.

well done.  When I build a house back there, I am toying with the idea of building the firepacle first, and then building the house around it.

Why is a 2" ball with a 1 1/4" shank so hard to find?

Because they're all made in China, and China is far away??

USA-made ones at antique malls now.

I remember not having any issue finding one several years ago, so much so, I dont recall where I got it.  But so far, wal-mart, home depot, autozone are all fail.  Going to try tractor supply this AM.

I saw where you were burning yesterday and I cut down a big storm damaged tree in my pasture yesterday and had plans to burn today, I think we better wait as well.

Your neighbors (for miles around) will thank you.   Applause E-Cred

I had a near miss earlier this spring with a fire, a late afternoon wind came up after the fire was started, I was with it until 10 pm that night. It never spread but the wind gusts would blow the embers into the air. Needless to say, it scared the heck out of me.

That's about what you have to do for a good one.
The starter has been great.  My neighbor said (with blowhard voice), "We don't need no newfangled starter.  I can start a fire."
Months later, his wife said, "We never have a fire.  Blowhard hates to use newspaper and it takes too long."
I just turn on the gas and light it.  Then in 5 minutes, I turn off the gas.  Nice.

Without a starter heart of pine (aka kindling) is the only way to go.

Same here.  We were burning a friend's pasture last month, and even small gusts sent the fire racing across the field toward the woods.

We call it "heartwood" or "kindling".  Always reminds me of my cousins.  We must have been about 12 years old; camped out in the woods in south Alabama near the Mississippi line.  We found an old pine stump with good heartwood, and hacked off chunks of it.  That stuff got the fire going and made for quick restarts all night.  Great fire starter.

One of my cousins made an incredible shot just before dark.  We had 22 rifles.  A crow flew over, and he leaned back and shot it with one shot.
Six years later he was a marksman in a tower in Vietnam.  Used his skills there.

BTW, we ate the crow.

Unfortunately the course was still wet from all the rain. The ball usually stuck where it hit.

Smitty, I saw the videos. I'm impressed. I'm guessing that's you on the tractor. I'm disillusioned, you don't look anything like John Belushi.  Tongue
