Did you seal it?

Once one of yall seals your concrete you'll be sold.

I know you're pushing that, but I haven't yet.  Today I visit Home Depot for some crack sealant and some plants.  I don't want to seal it until I fill the cracks.  I don't think the sealant will stick if I seal it first.

Another job finished yesterday: repacled the fireplace (firepacle?) gas starter.  I did that 15 years ago.  You know what I mean?  The pipe that carries gas under the logs for a quick start; best thing I installed when we built.

The pipe gets corroded.  The first one was cheaply made and corroded in 5 years.  I repacled it with galvanized, and it last 15 years.  I bought a piece of pipe with a cap on Friday, then drilled holes and installed it yesterday.  Nice.

well done.  When I build a house back there, I am toying with the idea of building the firepacle first, and then building the house around it.

That's about what you have to do for a good one.
The starter has been great.  My neighbor said (with blowhard voice), "We don't need no newfangled starter.  I can start a fire."
Months later, his wife said, "We never have a fire.  Blowhard hates to use newspaper and it takes too long."
I just turn on the gas and light it.  Then in 5 minutes, I turn off the gas.  Nice.

Without a starter heart of pine (aka kindling) is the only way to go.

We call it "heartwood" or "kindling".  Always reminds me of my cousins.  We must have been about 12 years old; camped out in the woods in south Alabama near the Mississippi line.  We found an old pine stump with good heartwood, and hacked off chunks of it.  That stuff got the fire going and made for quick restarts all night.  Great fire starter.

One of my cousins made an incredible shot just before dark.  We had 22 rifles.  A crow flew over, and he leaned back and shot it with one shot.
Six years later he was a marksman in a tower in Vietnam.  Used his skills there.

BTW, we ate the crow.

Growing up we didnt have a gas starter, so dad always had a crap ton of kindling he'd saved up.  One of the last times he came over here he saw some and took it home with him.  lol. I dont have a firepacle right now Sad but I still save the kindling in the barn.

Thanks Chech. Idk what's going on with my 'puter this morning, but it is very slow and timing out. I'm gonna run for now, but Smitty, I'll PM you later today about our meeting. One of the two parties I'm meeting with in Rock Hill is good with meeting tomorrow. I'm waiting for confirmation from the other guy. If he's good then you and I can meet Tuesday, if that's good with you. I'll be in touch.

Back for lunch.  Preacher must be in the pulpit by now.

I hauled some limbs in my woods and piled them on brush piles.  I leave those for the critters.

Then I cleared a leaf-and-stick dam in my creek.  Flowing well again now.
