Alabama's gymnastic meet with Auburn tonight is sold out. I guess Bama fans want to see Alabama beat Auburn for the 106th time in a row. LOL

Danica Patrick won the pole for the Daytona 500. I had forgot the NASCAR Superbowl is next weekend. I used to get excited for the NASCAR season to start but I have lost interest in the sport. Too many rule changes. IMO two things have hurt NASCAR. 1) Teams - racing is meant to be an individual sport. 2) Not racing back to the line for position on a yellow flag. I hate the lucky dog free pass.

Some people liked him and others hated him but you have to admit the sport has not been the same since Dale Earnhart died.  Sad

There is some well known names. Strong racers, but when Dale E. SR. died I just haven't got the same love back. His son is a lost cause. RTR!

Some of the other legends of racing perhaps did more to grow racing (PRE-Winston Cup days) than DD, but when the sport really spiked in popularity, he was the center of attention. If you appreciated a guy being a fierce competitor,-- Dale, Sr. was your guy! Astonishing how many fans based their interest in the sport around Earnhart. My driver was Hut Stricklin and he'd have done much better had they gotten that tow truck out of his way, but the first question I asked when I walked in the room on raceday was, "Where's #8?"

Hut Stricklin was the last of the Alabama Gang.  Sad He was an Alabama boy but not from the Hueytown/Bessemer area. He married one of the Allison's daughters. I don't think he ever won a race but had a few top tens.

Seems every week Hut would be the 3rd or 4th car to try a get through a wreck or spin out on the track and he'd end up in the infield with a quarter panel missing. Never caused the wreck, but ended up behind the wall anyway.  Angry Me and MRSBAMAWV pulled for Hut like he was a family member. Even would argue with a Earnhart guy or a Gorden brokebacker, as if Hut was #2 in the money each year. We made up stats for Hut, and told people we could get stuff autographed for them- but best I can remember, no one ever wanted any Hut gear. People around us that really didn't know much about racing, came away from our house (or our table at a bar) thinking Hut was a legend. If there was 4 or 5 people at our table, I'd take a hand vote on "the greatest all-time". Earnhart might have gotten a vote, someone would pick another great, then I'd say, "Okay, Hut Stricklin" and the woman and I would carry the vote 2-1-1. LOL Once, on her B'day, I told everyone to be quiet a not ruin the surprise, but that I'd arranged for Hut to call and wish her a happy birthday. She faked the surprise call like a champ, tears and all! One of her girl friends cried too, and one of her sisters was misty eyed (almost to tears). I almost cried myself.

How did you keep up with him? It seemed like he had a new car # and sponsor each week. The only sponsor I can remember is Curcit City.

This one is especially for Preacher Ricky: a poll shows Alabama is the nation's second most religious state (behind Mississippi).  And the New England states, where Christianity was introduced into our country, is now the least religious!
