I've got to shell peas this morning, another purple thumb.

Yum.  Reminds me of my Aunt D (long passed now), who had a big garden.  I stayed with them for summer visits when I was a kid.  Aunt D would pick peas at daybreak, while it was cool, then sit on the porch all morning shelling them.  Yep, purple-hull peas were a favorite.

Peas are a favorite in our family, except for the shelling. Mrs. J is from Iowa and none of her family had ever heard of a crowder pea, just sweet peas and english peas. When they would visit us we would have crowder peas with some of our meals and they would just look at them and ask what are those. After a few offers to them to try them they finally did and yep, they like them some crowder peas everytime they visit now. The same was with fried okra as well.

Classic Southern foods.  Served with cornbread, I presume?
Now that it's rained, I need to cut the grass today.  If it dries.   Smiley

Full time?  I've spent a lifetime trying to educate Yankees.  Almost hopeless.

I'll give you a good example. We recruited an agent in Dade County, Fl, who was transplanted from NY State. I spent a lot of time dealing with this guy and he's the kind that calls 3-4 times a day to get clarification on things that I've already covered with him. Well, I finally got him trained and asked the head of the call center to reach out to him to get him started on appointments.

A week later, this guy sends me an e-mail giving me the riot act because our guy never communicated with him. I followed up and found that a preliminary e-mail was sent to him asking for information to help get him started. I called the guy and left him a voice mail stating what I had learned. I received an e-mail from him saying that he changed his mind and was getting out of insurance.

No apology for being wrong or for wasting hours of my time, NOTHING. A total dutchbag.

THAT is a typical yankee!

Ever used a pea sheller?  They work pretty good. A lot less trouble and no purple sore thumbs. A lot faster too.

Yankees don't shell peas.  Hope this settles both discussions.

Yes, J, I've seen a pea sheller.  There was one at a farmer's market, where you could buy peas by the pound, then add a fee to have them shelled.  DONE deal.

My cousin has a pecan sheller too.  Greatest invention ever.  Patent is 1923.

I bought one once and tried it but there was a lot of waste with them, they mash up the peas.
