3 of the pines can be seen in this photo.  One in the left center and two side by side by the pond way in the background on the left.

What do you guys think about the HUGE old pines?  All the small ones are marked for demolition, but as of now I have no plans to remove the big ones.

They are the tallest trees on the property by probably 20' there are 5 or 6 of them (in the main field area, I have a forest area which is a whole other topic).  One is literally 5' around or so.

Personally, I have no problem with big pines, as long as they're not hovering over my house.  They make nice shade and don't drop many limbs.

Hmm.  Those aren't what I pictured.  Shortleaf Pines?  I can't tell.  They don't look like Loblolly.  If you care about the species, check to see if they have bundles of 2 needles or 3 (and size of cones).  If 2, and twisted needles (twirl around each other) = Virginia Pines.  Regardless, they look broader and have more low limbs than you probably want to keep.

That tree in the foreground is probably 100' tall or more.  Let me see if I can find a better picture for you.

Hmm... you can see it's shadow, this is before it was cleared around under it, so that's all privet down at ground level.  I'll take a better look at it today.

Yeah, tree taxonomy from shadows is tough.  I hate those Shortleaf Pines; cones stay attached, and when you try to stack the limbs into piles the limbs hold together like velcro.

How much of the tree do you need to see?

It's in the background of this video and two others can be seen also.  Notice how effing tall the are.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1359kvkGflk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1359kvkGflk</a>

Is it safe for me to assume all my pines are related and are probably the same kind?  Would there be any species worth keeping?  TIA

No doubt.  At least Smitty and I agree on this one.  You have a twisted sense of perfection.

They look more like Loblolly in that video, at least the ones in the distance.  You likely have at least 2 species there: Shortleaf and Loblolly.
