Pretty soggy down there. Last rainfall on Friday?

That happened yesterday after I dug the trench down below the spring and it flowed for a few hours.  But it is always pretty wet down there.

Also, it was pushing water out of the soil where I was running it down.  It shot out of the ground a couple of times.  Shocked
You know there are certain plantings that thrive on those conditions?

I dont want to stop it up any worse.

Anything that will put down some good roots and get tall?  I'm interested now.

I'd have to research a little to see what plants like "wet feet". Siberian Iris pops to mind and Cypress, but I'm sure the list is endless. Good privacy screening and sound barrier, plus they'll drink up a lot of that excess.

Smitty, this is your expertise, not mine.  But (here it comes) the French Drains I've seen have rocks to the surface.  Like you said above (back about 10 pages), short ones may have all gravel, but longer ones like yours need a perforated pipe.  But I've never seen them covered entirely with soil.  Unless its very porous soil (lots of interstices; at least "sand" in geological terms), it seems that it would drain the subterranean water from the yard, but not take the surface water.

Okay, where am I wrong?  I'm trying to learn.

Red Maples, Willows, Pin Oak, Birches. Seems I recall the river birches to be swampy tolerant AND fast growing.

Wait, hold the phone.  This is something I know, wetlands.  First question is, "Do you want to hold the water in pacle?"  That's what a wetland will do.  They'll slow water movement, take up some water, trap sediments, and it'll stay wet.  There is a long list of plants that will work in that wet area (BTW, Siberian Iris don't like it wet; other iris species, like the famous "Blue Flag", do tolerate wet conditions).

LOL. I have Siberian Iris planted by my downspouts. They love it. You're thinking of Siberian Huskies, that like frozen water.

Trees won't live in permanent wet conditions unless they establish in the dry soil first.  Those trees all tolerate being in standing water periodically, but not in constant standing water (wetland).  Freshwater wetlands have trees along the margins.  Only Bald Cypress (of those named) can stand being submerged.  If they establish in dry soil first, then they can survive.

It doesn't rain constantly.  This wetland area will be permanently wet.  Not the same.

Look, I don't care.  Just trying to avoid errors.

No need to scream at us, CAT. I agree that constant wet may lead to root rot.
